So I need some quick advice. (new member, first post!)

So I got a groupon for AAMCO for a Power Purge transmission flush.

As I took it in this morning I confirmed that they are indeed including a new filter and gasket as part of the flush, however, the tech said he did not have the machine to flush the torque converter. He did say he would flush it the traditional method 3 times to get as much out as he could.

Is this ok? I just purchased this thing with 100,000 miles on it. It had the oil changed just about every 5k at the dealer so I know its in pretty good condition. The only thing that was never done was a tranny flush (to include torque converter) and a dif flush.

Thanks in advance!

You're never going to get every last drop out of the trans, so I wouldn't worry about it. Flushing it 3 times is above an beyond what most places would ever do.

I've read stories where a power flush has caused problems but haven't seen any concrete data to back the claims up. I prefer the old school method of letting the trans pump do the work of pumping the fluid out and refilling by hand.

thanks. The groupon saves money which is nice but peace of mind is priceless.

Tried to change mine today but two bolts are stripped, so it might be a few days now. From what I've read from the Ford Tech who posts some great how to videos on YouTube for our trucks, the only way to get the fluid out is a pan drop. There is some type of thermo sensitive valve that won't let the lines open unless the tranny is pretty hot, thus making most types of flushers useless. Plus, our transmissions are pretty sensitive to using only mercon sp fluid, that's why I'm doing a pan drop and filter and wouldn't trust an AAMCO place. Probably 15-20,000 later, I'll change the fluid again and should be good for a while. I'm currently at 131,000.
