Hi guys. So I have a 2006 Limited Edition, it has 245k. So while driving it would act like it was starving for gas, do I replace the air filter and fuel filter. Maybe a week later now it won't drive in any gear. But when cold starting it will move but after about 30 seconds it wont move anymore, so id like to make sure that the trans is gone out completely.

Do you know how to check the fluid level ? Engine running, in Park. Is it still bright red? Or is it brown and smells burnt?

At first, it sounded like a fuel problem. But, it the engine runs and idles fine, just won't move, it is the drive train. I rebuilt my transmission at 252K. It wasn't as bad, just lost overdrive. It could be the torque converter, but you need to remove the transmission. So, it's time to make a choice. Two years ago, I made the choice to keep my 2003 EB4x4. It is getting harder and harder to find parts and some day, I will lose something that isn't available (even at the junk yard). If you are going to pull the transmission, probably $4K for someone to remove and replace the transmission with a rebuilt. If you pull it yourself and replace, you can get away with about half that cost.

Last year I lost lockup/ 6th gear in my 2007 with the 6R75. Fluid was bright pink and smelled fine. First I replaced the TCC solenoid and shift solenoid as well as new fluid and filter. No change. Then I ordered a reman Torque Converter and installed. Been great since I did that about 8 months ago and fuel economy has been way better. Glad I didn’t replace the transmission. Granted I was only at 160k.

Thanks guys, I'll have to have it towed somewhere to have it checked out then. I just went and bought my wife a 2014 Explorer she's happy with it, ill try and get the trans fixed and use it for a work vehicle and park my mustang.
