What did the total cost end up being?

I had quotes of $500-$1100+, all with me providing the replacement support. Shop honored the $500 but said he wouldn't ever do another one for that price.. Apparently there was a lot more involved than usual? Perhaps because I asked him to not disconnect the AC if possible.

Labor $500, Support $89. Bought the truck for drastically less due to the previous owner being afraid of the support rust. Happy to finally have it done!

Its great that the shop honored their quote and did not hit you with any extras. Good business practice.

Just rolled underneath my expedition to check out my support mounts. And they appear as bad or worse visibly than yours was. What would you recommend me doing? Do you think it's safe to continue driving like this for a while because I don't have the money at this point in time to get it repaired correctly. Was there welding involved in this job or is it a "bolt" on job? Because if there's no welding I might feel confident enough in attempting it on my own.

Sorry to hear of your findings. . Post up a few pictures of the damages if you can? The "before" pictures of my truck are from 7 months ago when I bought it.. I probably could have driven it for a lot longer and maybe never had an issue.... But when you look at what that support does, it is an important part of of the truck.


Unfortunately, the old support needs to be removed by drilling out all of the factory spot welds, and the new one needs to be welded back in is place. The frame then bolts back through the new support using the big bolts, rubber isolators, etc.

My mechanic said that when it does let go, I would know, because the front end would make noise on bumps, etc...

Looking forward to seeing pics of the damages you are working with.

I agree, yours needs replacing. The good news is, I had some people tell me that I could have gotten away with not even touching mine... but by looking at what purpose that support serves, I think you would agree it is a good idea to get it replaced. I would recommend the replacement support I picked up (see the first post for the info), even considering the few issues the shop found with having to drill some holes that were not present.

I would go around and get some quotes--at your small mom and pop shops, though.. The big body shops will likely be much more money.

Nice! Mines the same way. I'm a bodyman tho, so when it becomes time I can do it. My rockers are getting rusty too.
