Hey Guys,

First time posting, have enjoyed the good information from the group regarding 4th Gen Expeditions.

I have a 2018 Limited Max with about 24K miles. Purchased used from a dealer, only put 4K on it myself. My family and I just started on a long road trip when about 30 minutes in I felt a bad shutter and the wrench symbol appeared on my display. Could not get any RPMs on the freeway. Was able to limp it into a local Ford service station where they plugged in their laptop and found an issue with the turbo. Problem was that they didn't have the part in stock. No having a ton of options with my whole family in the waiting room, so was able to find a expedition rental not far away. The tech wrote down the codes for me and cleared it in my car, of course the car drove perfect all the way to the rental station.

Back from my trip, my ride is running fine. I took it into my local dealer and they cannot replicate the issue, I gave them all the information but they needed clearance from Ford to make a repair. 72 hours later Ford is giving them things to look at but says they need the issue to appear again.

On top of this I have a pretty decent rental bill, I was given contact information for a Keith Fickenworth, says his title is the Ford regional service manager for Western US. The guy never answers and of course you cannot leave a voicemail. Have called customer service a bunch and they just send me back to this Keith guy!

Has anyone experienced or heard of this turbo issue, also any advice to try and get some better service from Ford?

If you had a rental, why didn’t you leave it for repair?

Did the dealer provide a warranty service invoice, documenting the work?

What codes did they give you????

Actually sounds a lot like the throttle body issue some folks have experienced.

You’ll never get a hold of Keith or any other regional manner for that matter.

Hindsight is indeed 20/20, I was in a bind. Happened on a Friday around 3PM, we had a long drive to go and had a car packed with kids of various ages. Had to get them all to the rental place so we could exchange seats, etc. The service station was really small and they said they wouldn't be able to get to working on my car until late next week so I figured would take it to my local dealer when I got back. They didn't even write me up because I took my car with me. I know obviously not the right move at the time.

Probably the throttle body, not the turbo. Same thing happened here

the code the tech gave me - two different sets of numbers: P0236 & DV2A-9F479-D

Do these look familiar to anyone?

P0236 Turbocharger Boost Sensor A Performance. Possibly Map sensor or slow reacting bypass valve. It may have been an intermittent glitch.

I experienced this code "P0236" this afternoon driving home form work on a country road coasting at 55 MPH. Dash lit up saying "PCM malfunction, drive modes unavailable" with a wrench icon & than the CEL icon on. It then down shifted into 3d gear & stayed there not letting me go above 40 MPH with a shudder effect at the same time. I pulled off the road & turned the Expy off for 2 mins, then fired it up & drove the rest of the way home like normal with only the CEL on. Got home recorded the following codes & cleared them. First this has happened after owning this EXPY since Jul-2020. Hoping it was a random glitch. I will pull my MAP sensor & give it a cleaning. @LokiWolf & others, thoughts? MY19 4WD, 202A, XLT, 5Star tuned running 93 performance since Sept 2020.

Just returned from a "spirted" drive & had no issues/CEL/etc. It drove like the beast it normally is. Hoping this was just a 1 off glitch!

I've had it throw the wrench light while running on the interstate. It wouldn't build and boost or rpm and struggled to run 50 mph. Every time I applied the throttle it produced a drive line shudder. I pulled off at the nearest exit and parked it. Pulled out my code reader to check the codes. Code that it gave indicated Turbo boost pressure low, bank A. I shut it off, let it sit for a minute, cycled it back on and the wrench had cleared. It drove fine the rest of the way home. I have not experienced this anomoly since then.

Did you do anything? Clean anything? Check hoses and connections to the Turbos?

No I haven’t yet. It was dark when I got home. I did empty the catch can that was half full. Let’s hope the squirrels around me aren’t chewing up any wires or hoses. Only thing I can think of. This Expy hasn’t been worked on or taken off road in months.
