I have a couple questions. When starting up the Nav screen always asks if I want to order update info and states that I can't use certain functions while driving. and I have to push agree before going to the map or main screen. Is there a way that I can get the main screen to come up first w/o having to push agree all the time?

Second question. I have a stock setup, everything. I'm getting an average of 14 mpg. Is there a way to increase that with just a tuner. I know that with exhaust and cai and the tuner I could get more power. But I'm wanting better fuel consumption of hp at this point.

Thanks in advance.

The "Agree" button has to be pushed everytime if you are using the map/nav feature. If you want to use just the audio (radio/cd/etc...) features then you shouldn't have to. Try this, before shutting the vehicle off, make sure you are on the audio screen and no route/destination is stilll programmed in. Shut the vehicle off. When you go to restart, it should just show the "Ford" logo on the screen and then go right back to the audio home screen.

Have you done the "hack" for accessing the Nav in motion feature, allowing you or your passenger to enter destinations while driving ?

Mine is all stock so I can't comment on the "Tuner" question.

Nav screen, can't help.
Tuner...I have one that came out of my 08. Be more than willing to make a deal. Although you may not see extreme mpg gains, overall drivability becomes much improved. And the transmission actually functions properly. Pm if interested, it will be 1/2 price.

What type of driving are you doing where you are getting 14? That is about the bottom of what I get city driving. On the highway going about 65-70 I range anywhere from 19-24 mpg.

Thanks. I'll have to look into HyperTech. I'm not going to buy one yet. Just checking to see if it would help in mpg.

I wish I got that. I do a mixture of both. I drive conservatively and I have never seen 15mpg yet. The most I've gotten is 14.9 and that was never going over 2200 rpm. I was hoping for 17 on the highway. But with mixed, even limited city driving I still get under 15.

Just ask. :Big Laugh:

Disclaimer !!!!! Use at your own risk, if you crash while entering a destination while driving its not my fault !!!!

If you want to use the factory nav unit without the driving restrictions, here are the instructions (from wiingnut on another board). Use at your own risk. I have done this and it works great.

1. Take vehicle outside and agree to nav instructions. The gps needs to know its position.

2. Push hard nav button (on right side of radio). Go to your address book. Pick any of one of your saved addresses. Now that address is highlighted, look to right and push soft edit button. You will now see name of saved address.

3. Clear name of saved address and type in F-DEVELOP ON
(make sure to put space between DEVELOP and ON).

4. Now look to the upper left corner and you will see the word ADDRESS. Place your finger directly under the A and hold. If you do this right, the screen should change to the map screen.

5. Now push your hard menu button (on left side of radio). Across top of radio push soft SECURITY button. You have now entered security screen. You will see nothing in the bottom right most corner of nav screen. Push your finger and hold in that position till the screen changes.

6. You now have entered a parameter screen. Locate DRIVING RESTRICTIONS release. When you push the button it should change to driving restrictions stop. Exit the screen by pushing the soft BACK button.

7. Congrats you have just programmed your factory nav radio. NOTE: Every time you turn your vehicle off, you will need to repeat steps 5 & 6.

Good luck and enjoy. If you choose to monkey around with your other parameters, do so at your own risk. I will not be responsible for your dealer service call. If you have any further questions, please pm me and I will do my best to help. This programming sequence should work for only the so called first generation navs. It will not work in the MY09, second generation. This has been used to reprogram many MY 07 and MY 08 Ford vehicles.

Thanks Matt. I'll check that out. I looked there but didn't realize it was behind a panel.
