type of oil and weights?

high mileage. i use gtx. 5-30. just to help with dry starts. since i have a clicky valve in the mornings.

I actually just did an change oil and went to moble 1 extended performance with a moble 1 filter and I love it. The engine is noticeably quieter and smoother. I used 5w-20.

I work at a ford dealer and I use a combo in mine of 4 qts 5w20 and 2 qts of 15w40 both semi-synthetic motorcraft[castrol I think]. I used similiar in my 01 explorer and it worked well.

wait a sec, just picked up a expy that had a miss, been fixing it (miss is gone) and test driving it before i dump more money into it.. needs an oil change as oil is a bit gassy smelling (from miss i suspect) its only slightly.

this thing takes 6 quarts instead of 5? I picked up a filter and 5 qurarts, but havent crawled under it yet.

I didn't think you were supposed to mix oil. What is the purpose? I've used 10/30 Valvoline Synpower in my '97 EB for 200,000 mi. Am I wasting my money?

When synthics came out some of them suggeted 1 quart synth and the rest conventional. Some suggested driving 5000 miles draining quart and adding only 1 fresh new one in.. NOW keep in mind thats 20 years ago (or more) and most of that thinking is long gone. I doubt mixing it will have any (negative)effect at all except viscostiy.. 5-30 and 10-30.. mixed in even ammounts should in theroy be 7.5-30.. i cant really see a reason to be in between, but to each thier own.. as for brands, they all meet specific requirments other wise just use differnt addetives (detergents mostly).. There are some small differnece in where oil comes from.. east coast oil is genearly considered (waxxy- good or bad- no idea, have used it with no ill effects) and other area's all have traits too.. BUT nowdays unless you are racing or in other high stress enviroments i doubt you will notice any real difference in BRANDS as long as you stick to the good ones.. and not the generic bottles labled "super cool racing oil" that are $1.99 at the local 7-eleven or closeout store.

With all that said, if you like Brand XX use it.. Some brands have 200,000 mile promises as long as you have the oil changed at a place that uses thier brand at required times and you keep recipts of every oil change...(valvoline does i see, im sure others do to).

I think it comes down more to car tuned up, (not running rich , etc) how you drive it, if you change when you are saposed too.. air filters.. etc..


and I AM NOT an expert nor claim to be so my advice or opinion is just that.. Oil and car care is a bit like politics.. we all go our own way.

yes ford truck gas v8s and v10s up to the 3 valve used 6 qts, 5.4 and 6.8 3 valves use 7 qts. I mix the oils to get some benefits of the diesel 15w40 and to keep a relatively thin oil for my 210k mile engine. these oils are the same brand and are both semisythetic.
