P0305 for weeks
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I posted this a while back and have an update at the end of this post. Please help.
I have tried to resolve this on my own for a while now. I am worried if I do not get it fixed it will cause more damage. I keep getting a P0305 error no matter what I try. I brought it to a mechanic because the check engine light went on but I was also due for an oil change. The mechanic said it was a fuel injector and would cost $350 to change it. I thought that seemed a little high so I told him to hold off a while and I would bring it back. I asked him to put in a can of seafoam to see if that would resolve the issue. A few days later the code was still there so I called my buddy who works on cars and he said I could change it on my own because it is near the front of the engine. Here is what I ended up doing,
1. Changed the fuel injector.
2. Changed the coil.
3. Changed the Spark Plug with new Moror Craft
4. Added another can of Seafoam.
The error code keeps coming back. I don't know what else to do.
I need to bring my truck on a long trip next month hauling my camper from NJ to WV and I don't want any problems. Please help and remember that although I am a little handy I am not familiar with all of the technical jargon.
UPDATE!!!!
OK everyone, here is what we did. I had to recruit a friend who works on cars for a living to help.
1. Changed all of the plugs
2. Changed all of the coils
3. Cleaned the MAF
4. Changed the fuel injector and confirmed it is working
5. Did the Seafoam trick
5. Tested for compression (no loss)
6. Tested for leaks with smoke and flammable spray
7. Visual inspection the hose on TB and Rubber boot (all seems fine)
8. Flopped Coils to ensure #5 wire was good.
9. He had to change an o2 sensor to remove a p0171 code that came in a few weeks after the original p0305. (He felt the misfires may have caused the o2 sensor to go bad.)
Still running bad in the beginning but runs better after it warms up. By the way, I took it to West Virginia and back, up and down the mountains while towing a 4,000 lb Airstream camper without any problems.
My buddy is a manager of an auto shop and he along with all of the other mechanics can't figure it out. I picked it up and it was running smooth because he was driving it around for a while. I do hear a slight tapping noise when I step on the accelerator.
