I went to the store the other day, truck was running fine. When I came out with my groceries and went to start it, it started but rumbled a whole bunch and shook pretty violently before eventually just shutting off. I turned it off and tried it again and it did the same thing. I tried giving it some gas but it did not respond at all to the pedal. I tried turning it on and off with the same result about 5 more times. I waited about 6 minutes and then tried to start it and it started fine. I made it back to the house and turned it off and back on and it did rumbled around again. I've since gone out to the garage to start it and it's started up fine.

Any ideas on what caused this to happen? I do not want to get stuck somewhere and not be able to get it started...

How long does it run before it dies? When it is running really rough is the security light on?

The first time it did it I turned it off. The next few times it ran about 15-20 seconds before it shut itself off.

I'll look into fuel filter and fuel pump.

Does the security light come on?
Did you drop your keys?

The reason I ask is it sounds like the factory ANTI-THEFT system is cutting out the fuel system. When the security system kicks in it disables the fuel injectors. If either the key got damaged or if it is the sensor inside the colum that "reads the chip" in the key is wearing out or is damaged, it could give you these intermitant episodes. This would also explain why it would not respond to the pedal when it is acting up.

A buddy of mine let his kids play with his keys to keep them quite and when he went to start his expi, it did the same thing. Ended up being that his kids had dropped and thrown the keys so much the chip had a crack in it. So sometimes it would work and others it would not.

Do you have another key for the vehicle? If so try using it and see if that key solves the problem.
If it was a fuel pump it would be more constant same with the filter.
