Hi everyone,

I drive a 2025 Ford Expedition MAX with 24-inch wheels, and I had a concerning issue today.

While entering a parking structure with a clearly marked 6’6”height limit, the shark fin antenna hit the clearance bar. What’s strange is that I’ve previously entered other 6’6” height garages without any problems using the same vehicle setup.

This has me wondering:

Are there any alternative shark fin antennas or low-profile replacements compatible with the 2025 Expedition MAX? Something like a disc-style low-profile antenna or a shorter assembly that still supports all function.

If anyone has run into this before or has suggestions for OEM or aftermarket options, I’d appreciate your help!

Thanks in advance!

BTW: I initially thought maybe the 24" wheels raised the vehicle—but after thinking it through, factory wheels shouldn’t change ride height much since larger wheels typically come with lower-profile tires to maintain overall diameter. So it’s likely the antenna height itself that’s the issue.

Published dimensions has a max of 78.1 inches, or 6.5 feet. You're assuming that the dangling warning sign is 100 percent accurate.

78.1 inches is 6 feet and 6.1 inches. The OP stated the overhead sign bar limit was 6.6 feet. I wonder if he meant 6 foot - 6 inches?

All overhead limit signs that I recall always express the limit in feet and inches.

Those signs are pretty inaccurate, especially if the pavement is not perfectly flat for the length of the vehicle wheelbase. Your front or rear tires may be a couple inches raised.

FYI, many roads have maintenance done to them periodically that entails more layers of asphalt/ concrete. Many times the clearance signs do not get updated.

Coming from a former OTR truck driver. Seen many low clearance mishaps. That above statement comes from the safety department of the company I once worked for.

When the accident(s) were investigated in many cases the clearances were lower than posted.

Could’ve been the case in your situation.

Especially when you consider that you have to adjust the height for inflation, so 6'6" in today's measurements is really only 5'10.76" in real terms.

True story.

Old thread....
I have the same problem...my Tremor (published height is 78.9") doesn't like EXITING the 6'6" garage at my office.

Even though I was above the stated height, I inched into the garage and checked the clearance as I did; sure enough, I snuck under with about 1/4" to spare. Thinking I was in the clear, I didnt pay attention on my way OUT of the garage and the shark fin thunked the barrier. I took a tape measure out there and the barrier is 78.75"...I have a 0.15" problem. The fin seems fine, but I don't think bumping it every day is a good long-term solution.

Did anyone (@imm009) ever come up with an idea here?
