During the last few days I have noticed my car surging. The other morning it was -12 below. My 1999 Expedition revved to 5000 rpms and would not quit. I was able to make it home. I dug around for awhile. I found a huge hole in a elbow on a vacuum line. It of fill with condensation and goo. This elbow attaches to a small cylinder that has what appears to be some kind of float in it. This cylinder then attaches to the manifold. The cylinder had the same type of gooey substance.
Can anyone tell me what this cylinder is and if this would cause the revving to 5000 rpms? I fixed it and have not had any issues since. The engine seems stronger that it has been as well.
I just want to make sure what it is and if this could have been the likely culprit of what my engine was doing. Thanks.
