Vibration when accelerating in the 45-50MPH range? Torque Converter?

Same issue I had with '02 Exploder. When I'm idling with my foot on the gas in my '04 Expy XLT at about 45mph and then accelerate slightly I get this vibration up front and sounds like when u run over those things some roads have when youre approaching a stop sign. I'm sure u know the vibration and noise you get from those. Only the vibration and noise coming from my truck isn't nearly as loud or intense.! Could it be the slip yoke needing lubed? I know that can cause a jerking feeling when u come to a stop which I had in my explorer but I don't have this issue with my Expy. Thanks guys/gals

doing a little research I came across this site with people who sound like they're having the exact same issue
http://www.fordforum.com/forum/ford...t-45-50-mph-when-accellerating-slightly-6101/

I just bought this Expedition a week and a half ago and it's got a 3month warranty but I am responsible for half of anything. But it was not doing this when I test drove it. They should have to be responsible for any repairs if it's the torque converter IMO. Just weird that my Explorer was doing this and now so is the Expedition! Common Ford issue?? Well I'm taking it to the dealership I bought it at tomorrow after work!

Any input from you guys would be appreciated and also any advice on what I should say to or expect from the dealership (chevy dealership) when I take it to them to look at it.

Edit: Well taking it to them tomorrow at 3pm so they can diagnose it. I'm almost 100% sure it's the torque converter. If they even mention my paying half of the expenses I am going to flip. I know I signed the 3mo warranty but I've had the truck for 10 days and they could have lubed it up with dr. tranny's instant shudder fix and parked it on the lot! And I'll mention that to them! Other than that the truck runs smooth as silk and tranny shifts great. If they run a decent business and want more business then they'll fix it no charge IMO.

Does it do this when it is shifting from 3-4 and/or when downshifting?

Doesnt do it when shifting at all. Does it when I accelerate. Say I'm cruising at about 45mph. Well if accelerate at that speed it happens. Noticed it a littke when accelerating from about 50mph too. Ill make sure to check back here tomorrow and let everyone know what the dealership says.

I had a really bad shudder at that speed and it ended up being the U-joint.

I thought of that too. I'll only be on the hook for half the cost but considering I've had it a little over a week I'm gonna be a pain in their ass and see if they'll just take care of it. I've always prided myself on getting good deals on good trucks. Doesn't mean I did a bad job on my expy but it's irritating!

Im not sure, havent heard of converter shudder while on the gas. Usually it starts on the 3-4 shift and will eventually move to all shifts.

I took it to the dealership and yes it's definitely the torque converter. Now I'm just waiting to hear back from them here in the next few min hopefully as far as if they're going to take care of it for me or if I have to pay as the warranty states which is half. Considering it's been 10days I hope they throw me a bone but I shouldn't expect one. Anyone know what the avg cost is? I've read anywhere between $800-$1300. Glad it's tax season! I'll keep everyone updated in case it happens to someone else. Thanks for all your input, this is an awesome forum!

OK so they estimated the cost at $1250 and they're willing to do half but they're waiting on the FORD dealership to get back to them to see if it's covered under the drivetrain which it better be! Said the converter alone is $300 which seems a little high but if they're willing to meet me half way then I'm looking and $600 as opposed to the entire cost so I suppose it's a blessing in disguise it happened now as opposed to down the road. Gotta take it in on Monday for more diagnostics to see how bad it is. The tranny feels great so I'm not too worried about that having to be replaced. This is the first time I've bought a vehicle and had any immediate issues but as I said, better now when I'm only on the hook for half as opposed to the entire amount!

Edit: Note to self, I've always bought my trucks from a ford dealership. Guess I shouldn't have bought a FORD from a Chevy dealership! Karma???!? lol

UPDATE

Saturday I woke up pissed off about the whole situation. I thought to myself why the hell should I have to pay half for these repairs when I just bought the truck!? They told me upon signing several times that the truck had been looked over and checked for any mechanical issues. I went in there and talked to the manager. I told him I was going to get an attorney and find out what my rights are, was going to the Better Business Bureau, and take an add out in the paper saying how disgusted I was with this dealership. Well they are rated A+ by the BBB and have a 5 star customer rating so I knew it just might work.

I get a call back today and they told me they've ordered the part and are going to pay the first $1,000.00!
I then said so if you estimated me at $1250.00 parts and labor, than I'm looking at $250.00, and the manager said he padded the labor a little and the total cost will likely be under $1,000.00 essentially leaving me with a $0.00 tab. If it ends up being over 1K then I'd imagine my bill would be under a few hundred bucks. They're also going to send my Expy to a FORD dealership to have the work done which I was also thrilled with because this is a Chevy dealership I got it from.

I got a buddy that works at my local Firestone and I took my truck there and had him check it over once more before it goes in for work and the only issue he found was in fact the torque converter. The part should be in Thursday and I should have my baby back by the weekend! Definitely couldn't have turned out better.

Thanks for all your input!

Torque converter is an and truck feels awesome! It was just under 1k so I didn't have to pay a dime. Talked to the Ford dealership that did it and they said other than that tranny looks excellent. They also said torque converters seem to be an issue in Expy and Explorers from '01-'04. Just an FYI
