Since the last cold snap I've been hearing this wine coming from the transmission. It was really bad when we had our cold snap (-20). The sound is really noticeable when the truck is sitting idle, not much change in sound from park VS drive. When it's moving I don't hear it.

I crawled under the truck when it was running, seems to be coming out of the front of the transmission. Anyone have this happen? If so What was the fix?

Fluid level is good and the fluid is nice & clear/reddish-pink color.

You could do a stall test to check if its really the torque converter. Put the lever in drive, step on the brake and rev it up to 1200 rpm for no more than 6 seconds. If the noise increases, then its the converter.

The transmission shop just fixed my transmission for the same sound. It was the torque converter. With the transmission out they checked and replaced any damage part put on new sensors. They also did a transmission flush. We paid $850. Other shops just wanted to change the converter for the same amount of money, and others wanted $1200 to do the same job as above.

Yikes... I am not planning on keeping this truck more than a year or two. I don't want to stick that kind of money into it.

Maybe time to get rid of it!

I did this; as soon as I gave it a little gas the noise went away. Are there any other symptoms to a bad torque converter? Or any other ideas on what would be making the noise?

Before I took the truck to the transmission an other mechanic said it was the power steering pump. He charge me $60 to replace the pump and the pressure hose +the parts. The sound did not go away.
