I did the same work in my 2010 V-8 Explorer. Chain and gears, phasers, phaser solenoids, chain guides, gaskets. I elected not to change the pump or drop the pan. The rockers (followers) were fine. All is well now, two years later with 170,000 miles on it.
I did the job in the driveway and took about 12 hours over three days. I used Motorcraft parts throughout. The parts bill was about $1,300 three years ago. Figure probably $2,300 today.
I'll keep it another two years or through 200,000 miles or so. The smaller Explorers tend to get a bit more rust than the Expeditions around here, and that's usually their demise. Some things just get too rusty to fix and overall dependability deteriorates.
Hope you see many more happy miles with that white truck.
