As I was going to work on Tuesday, I hit my brakes thought they were a little soft. I got to work and didnt worry about it until I got ready to leave so I checked the fluid level and it was completely empty.. I found that I had blown my Rear brake line. At first I thought it was the main brake line coming back to the rear brakes. After driving it to the parts stores and then home with very little braking power, I found that it was brake line going over to the passenger side rear brake.. So I figure that I would replace the starter on my woman van first. Ha mistake, it took me and my buddie from work over three hours to get it off and back on. Little caravan 3.3, top bolt was stuck in there.. Wednesday I finally got time to repair the brake line. I got done in about two hours with breading the brakes.. that was easy! So I took a quick look at the tank since the guy that I bought the expo from said it had a small leak in it.. Didnt find anything. Thursday at work, I put the code reader on it and found that it had three o2 sensor codes.. lol so it was only a o2 problem and this guy got rid of this vehicle.. I took it on a trip about 90 miles in the morning and only got 12.4 mpg so I modified the air filter housing and cut a 6x4 hole in it. had to take the step daughter to meet her grandparents 90 miles from home. So I stop at my brother house and he looked at the codes and thinks it just the manifold leak.. I increased my MPG by 1mpg on that 90 miles trip by just cutting that hole in the air filter housing.. Just now need to get the K&N filter.. lol

pathfinder-

your expy may be "bone stock", but the color is somewhat rare. its called moonlight blue clearcoat metallic. i have one just like yours. in some 10 years of driving around the southeast, i have only seen 20 or so of this color. '97 and '98 only color.

mine has grey interior. always thought tan would look more stunning. but since i like you got mine pre-owned, didn't get to make that choice originally.

nice truck.

i did a very similar mod on my old F150 that I wheeled... i just drilled 3 half inch holes in the bottom of tube... that way any water or big dirt would drain out the bottom, worked for a year and a half up here then later when to an ebay intake... now have KN in expy and love it

I find it interesting that your air box mod worked since although you made it capable of taking in more air, it's taking in the hot engine air instead of cold air from outside. Since it's taking in hot air instead of the cold air, I would say theoretically it wouldn't result in an improvement, but if actual tests show improvement then I guess the cold air doesn't help that much.

You might have a great point there about the cold air\hot air off the engine. Its the same idea that I used on my old firebird with the open air cleaner (4 brrl carb system). It ways performed better with the open system then the "closed" system. I had found on the old pathfinder that just flipping the lid on the air cleaner housing helped. But in the winter here in the midwest, I had found that engines dont really like too much "cold" air until it enigne warmed up the air. lol
I just think the reason the "cold air" system and the way I modified mine works is that just let the engine take in a better breath of air whether its cold or hot air.
I let you know how the test goes... over all I got 12.2 mpg according to the computer, that was highway and city driving 160 miles Hwy \ 100miles city. I will have to recheck my fuel tickets. :p
