What are these attached to the underside of the hood (See pic)? I've seen them on several MY of Expeditions, but then I've seen several images of where these are missing. What purpose do they serve and what are they called. Thanks.

If I were here, you would know it !
If/when you try to do something stupid with your vehicle (like driving way too fast or climbing up a 87° incline), those openings are where the "bad driver goblins" enter & exit the engine compartment....

Hahahahahaha....just kidding too :)

They look like engine-bay light mounting brackets to me. Maybe an option on some trims? Maybe available from Amazon?

Maybe they strengthen the hood somehow, you know, to keep it from bouncing in the wind so bad that it looks like it's gonna rip off! There are plenty of ways to keep something rigid and still reduce weight, lol. I'm just glad I haven't seen anyone put those gangsta fake Cadi plastic vents there!

They do help with the pressure differential that can lead to that. So yeah.

I'd love to see that in a wind tunnel, with / without, although that won't really show real world conditions. I get the pressure differential with downforce and low pressure under which impacts the engine bay, but my issue is inconsistent airflow over the hood, i.e. wind gusts, changing wind directions, etc while driving. Under normal conditions its fine, but there are plenty of times here in CO where winds on highways go from head on to sideways instantly, and this hood looks like it's inches from buckling. I've tightened the bumpers to try and help but it's crazy. Makes me slow down at times if the families in the car.

Yeah, I have experienced exactly what you are talking about. I also tightened our 2020's, and adjusted the hood back on the arms, to make the front edge more flush.

I think the vents are more about equalizing pressure under normal frontal airflow to decrease possibility of pressure differentials.
