Just took delivery of our 2019 Expedition MAX XLT with all packages except Offroad. Very delighted but surprised and a little disappointed to realize it doesn't have the front parking aid. By this I mean the proximity sensor at the front that would help with parking it in our garage. Fortunately its relatively easy to put some wood down in front of a tire, which is probably a more precise and reliable way of achieving the same goal.

Since I don't see this explicitly mentioned in the brochure, I'm curious what we would have needed in order to get this included? Does this only come with the active parallel parking assist feature on the Limited?

Just throw some aftermarket unit on it. The computer is pretty complicated to tap into after the fact.

I'm going to make a WAG here and speculate that Ford abandoned the old school proximity sensors and integrated "depth perception" into the 360°camera system (which I could only find referenced on the XLT models in the 2020 order guides included in the FX-4 package). My 2019 Limited has them as part of the Special Edition package. They work great--for example, when I pull head-on into my garage normally (with 3 inches or so between the right side mirror and the door opening), I get no warnings. However, when I come any closer, I get warning dings and the dash display shows the 360° overhead view highlighting where it identifies the vehicle getting too close to the surrounding objects in different colors depending on how close: orange for near and red for very near. I'm thinking that that could not be added post-production.

It's not cameras either...
This is the front of my 2019 Plati. Note the two dots that are proximity sensors.

OBVIOUSLY I should have looked first and wrote second. I stand corrected, again
Why be like this? When people ask a question, hypothesize about possibilities, and arrive at the correct answer, it's a healthy and meaningful conversation. Don't feel like conversations are only worth having if you're the one that has the correct answer. That's no way to go through life.
