Since this is the suspension for the Expedition, it is referred to as a 5 link suspension setup. YOu have the 4 arms running front to rear that keep the axle centered in the wheel well and the 5th arm is running side to side which is keeping the axle centered under the truck.

If you want to know more, let me know. I know a thing or two about the suspension in our trucks.

is that the tow package suspension?

I also saw some airbags underneath there. On some Expedition they have the airbags where my springs are.

asianredneck, some expeditions have air bag suspensions on them. Depending on the options that your truck was ordered with will depict if you have airbags or not. In short, if you have an EB, then you will have airbags in the suspension. If you have a 2wd truck, then you will only have airbags in the rear. If you have a 4wd truck, then you will have airbags in the rear with air shocks up front.

Plaese keep in mind that you can find EBs with a standard suspension (ie, no air bags) as that was an option. LIke you can find XLT's with a full air ride suspension on them. SO, there is no clear cut method to determining if your truck should have airbags or not short of getting a copy of the original build sheet for your truck and seeing what it says.

Some members have even gone as far as to remove the air bags from their vehicles due to past issues.

Is there something specific you are wanting to know about this setup? I'm sure someone here can answer it for you.

Asianredneck, this suspension will tow just fine. The big difference is the amount of sag that you may get depending on the weight of the trailer and how much tongue weight you have. With the air ride setup, it will tend to inflate the bags more, keeping the rear of the truck higher and therefore not make the headlights shine up into the sky. But, there are also ways around that (ie, weight transfer bars).

As long as you are keeping the trailer within the ratings of the truck, all should be good. I have towed up to around 6,000 pounds with my truck also and had no issues.

Just go ahead and tow, if its less then 5000lbs Im pretty sure its ok, the only way you have an air suspension is if there were airbags in place of the coil springs, you dont have air.
