What rear end?

Howdy, new here and a dodge guy, but have ford in the family and need help for a buddy of mine. My buddy has a 97 Expedition XLT that needs a new rear end. With all the snow and him having no garage I have been unable and un willing to crawl under it and look at the tag to see which rear end these have. I am thinking it has the 8.8 with 355 gears? My plan is to drag it up to my house or my fire hall this spring and replace the rear end for him. I have the VIN# if that would help. Just incase it matters it has 5 lug wheels.

It kind of depends on if it has the 4.6 or the 5.4 and whether it's 4wd.

The door tag will tell you what is back there.

Its a 4x4 and HAS THE 5.4 v8 and says the axle is H6 on the door tag.

idk what gears but it has the 9.75 inch axle.

The H6 axel code Means that you have a 9.75" axel with 3.73 gears and Limited slip differential.
