I changed my oil at 2,000 miles to give the semi synthetic oil filled at the factory time to allow the engine to break in. I plan on changing the oil every 5,000 miles or 6 months since Motorcraft oil filters are $6 each and the 6 quarts of 5W30 synthetic oil is less than $30.
I do keep all my receipts in case I need to prove maintenance was completed. I actually had to do this on my 05 Excursion when the turbo was having problems. I produced every receipt along with my maintenance log and the warranty was honored.
With respect to the 5.4 vs 3.5TT discussion let me add my .02 cents. I have both; an 08 Expy and a 17 Expy. I love the V8 sound I get from the 2008 but the acceleration and better gas mileage of the 2017 is impressive.
I am looking to improve the performance of the 2008 Expy (non-EL) with 3.73 gears, K&N intake and performance tuner.
