whats the other sensor in the signal mirrors

My 1999 expy has power heated signal mirrors. In the V of the signal there is a sensor of some kind. It looks like another dot of the signal but it is on the back sideof the V. And you can see some sort of electric sensor. Does anyone know what it is? Just curious. Thanks

auto dimming??? Just a guess, but could be a light sensor to change the mirror
