Hey crew!

Another part question. I'm trying to find a set of winter wheels and tires for my exped. I found a set of 18" wheels with tires from a 2021 exped for $1k near my neck of the woods. I think the part number for the wheels is ALYFO049U30. Tires mounted on the wheels are LT275/65R18. Would these wheels work for my 2017 XLT? TIA

Assuming your suspension is stock or close to it, those tires/wheels should work, as the sizes are similar to what came on the '17 Expy's from the factory...

Are they new or used ? Cause $1k for used ones seems a little high to me :D

Thanks! I have stock suspension. They are used, but with tires included. Although I think I am going to negotiate price. Tires are Big O A/T II. What do you think would be fair to offer? $800?

As long as the tires have some decent tread left and the rims aren't beat to crap, I think $800 would be fair...but are do you have to go get them or are they bringing them to you ? Maybe add/subtract a little for that if it's more than a short distance away :D

Great question. We are going to meet halfway, about a 2 hr round trip drive. I should have posted photos in the main post. They seem to be in good shape. He didn’t have a photo of the DOT date code but I will verify when I get there. Hopefully the date code is 2021 or newer.

These wheels and tires should work.

275/65R18 is the size tire on my 2017 but mine are not LT275/65R18 which are light truck tires and would make my Expedition ride like a truck since they need significantly more air pressure than the standard P-metric tires on the SUV. LT tires seem like an oxymoron for winter tires to me. Be interested in how these work out -- be sure to let us know next April.

They are AT tires, but I found these looking for winter/snow tires. I had AT tires on my '03 exped and I loved them in the snow. I bought the '17 in AZ and it has some all season, which I want to keep around for summer use. Plan is to beat the crap out of the ATs in the winter, and put a new set of tires on the rims in a year or two. I will let you know how they work out.

I'm just curious about the ride quality. AT tread on a LT body on a vehicle intended for P-metric tires. Find a tire pressure that works for these. Max sidewall pressure of 80psi will support 3400 pounds each or twice the weight of an Expedition. Not sure how low you can run them as Ford intended the SUV to run the P-metrics as something like 32psi (they max at 2750 @44psi).

I've been running Continental Terrain Contact A/T P-metrics for a few months now at placard tire pressure and the ride is a tiny bit harsher than the OEM tires. No one but me has noticed though so it may be just new tires with more tread. Just wanted a bit more capability on unpaved roads in what we call mountains here in Virginia. Leaf blower normally handles "schools are closed" snow here. :)

Haha it takes a lot to close the schools out here, but I am in the woods and not in a major metro area.

As far as ride quality, I never had any problems with my '03 (pretty sure I had at least 1 set of LT tires). I am not your typical exped owner, single guy with a dog. I don't need a pickup and mostly use the exped to adventure and sleep in. Also, great for the occasional tow (I used to tow several trailers with my '03, but do not have them anymore). Would rather feel safe driving up the pass to go skiing and sacrifice a bit of ride quality. These did come off of an exped, I'll ask him why he changes them out, maybe it was the ride quality.

Thinking I will offer $800 for them as I bet the date stamp on the tires are a few years old. If I get one winter out of them, I'll be happy and can change them out to P metric AT tires next winter. Thank you all for the replies!

Got them on today. They look great! The wheels are essentially the exact same as mine. Louder on the highway for sure, but they ride okay. I think they will be great up here for the season. Going to take the rig up the pass tomorrow for some skiing
