Good choice....I'm sure you'll like...install is simple(30 min or less)
Guaranteed, you'll find yourself hitting the loud pedal a little harder!

I think the K&N kit for the lightnings anyways is a p.o.s. The oval shape of the plastic adapter that mates to the throttle body did not match well and would loosen up over time. When I tried to tightened it more it would collapse. I ended up getting a C&L elbow (cast aluminum) utilizing the K&N filter only. I do not know what the various kits are made of but it may be an item worth considering when comparing them.

Never used one with my stock set up so I did not vote.

How much louder does a CAI make the engine? I had a stage 3 on my Trailblazer, and it made the engine loud and aggressive sounding. It was almost too much. I don't want to make my Expy overly loud, but I want to do a CAI and exhaust to open it up. Does anyone realistically see an increase in MPG with a CAI?

I just installed a Spectre intake at lunch. I didn't expect to hear anything, but I could hear it when I stomped on it to get on the freeway. We're taking a 300 mile trip tonight so I'm curious to see if it helps at all. Honestly, I'll be surprised if the MPG goes up even a little bit.

I have a K&N fipk kit and I love it, very noticeable throttle response and it sounded great even before I had my exhaust done.

No option for other

That's going to be one of my summer projects for the beast, build a full CAI for the truck.

Already got the velocity tube (ceramic coated Aluminum), now just have to build the airbox (trying to decide if its going to be fibreglass or sheet aluminum) and add a filter.

Haven't decided on which filter I am going to use yet, other than it will not be a K&N...

I just purchased the K&N kit and am very disappointed at how many gaps there are to let the hot engine bay air get in the intake. I was under the impression that the cold air kit was truly "cold air"???

Well the air would not be any colder inside of the hot bay than it would be if drawn from the fender. I think "Cold Air" is just a marketing term personally. I could be wrong though.

The main benefit of a cold air intake is that it smooths the intake tube while simultaneously opening up the width of the intake tube.

I've had K&N filters on three vehicles now. Each one seemed to get worse gas milage because of it and I'm not sure the HP increased as advertised. My '99 Expedition with the 5.4 sounded nice with it, but I would have gone back to stock if I could have.
