IMPAIRED DRIVING CHARGES LAID IN BIZARRE NORTHWEST CRASH.

A man is facing impaired driving charges after an SUV crashed in Arbour Lake causing two houses to catch fire.

Police were called to the 800 block of Arbour Lake Road N.W. at about 11:00 p.m. Wednesday for reports of a collision.

The driver of a Ford Expedition lost control of the vehicle and crashed into two homes on the street.

The SUV crashed into the houses and sparked a fire.

Two homes were heavily damaged by the crash and fire.

The smashed SUV is loaded up on a truck and taken away.

A fire erupted and the two homes sustained extensive damage. A third house also suffered damage to the roof and siding from the blaze.

Firefighters stayed at the scene all night watching for hot spots.

The driver of the SUV was taken to hospital in serious condition and has since been released.

Darren McDowell, 32, is charged with impaired driving and taking a vehicle without consent.

McDowell will appear in court on Friday.

No one else was hurt in the incident.

Insurance premiums just went up for whatever insurance company that expedition carries. :eek:

Yeah, i remeber that crash when it happened, was a wierd one for sure.

Was only a brief splash in the news though, with the flooding still getting all the attention.

If the insurance laws are like they are around here the insurance company wont pay for anything other than to the vehicle "owner". Most insurance companies dont cover damages to other peoples property when vehicle is taken without consent = stolen.

Hope the homeowners policy was paid up. My guess is the guy is a deadbeat and can't afford to pay restitution.
