Window Regulator Issue

My drivers door window regulator went out. I took it to the shop to get replaced, now on auto up, it stops about an inch before being fully closed. Anyone know how to fix this?

Also, my drivers door window switch has started working intermittently lately. Can you change just that switch, or do you have to replace the set? Is there some maintenance that can be done to fix this?

Well somehow you have to reset the window motor so that it knows where it is at when using the auto up and down, etc. Right now it thinks it is completely rolled up when it really isn't. How to do this, I have no idea. But someone else posted a problem like that a while back and this was what the case was. At least that should give you somewhere to start.

If it were my truck this is what I would try. Send it in auto-up until it stops. Take off the door panel and run leads from the battery over to the door. Put the leads on the plug for the motor (with the motor unplugged). Positive and ground on one will send the motor one way, switching them sends the motor the other way. Roll it up the rest of the way using this method and see if it works properly after that. As far as the truck knows, the window was up the whole time, so therefore I would think it would work. If it doesn't though, then it is time to start googling...

As far as the switch goes, at least on the 1st gens, it was easiest to just replace the entire switch. Check with junk yards to see if they have an extra one off of a totaled truck. They are usually cheaper, though with such a new truck they will be harder to find.

Haha I was too lazy to break out the google machine... good find, I bet that will work. Who comes up with that crap though, some Ford programmer must have had it out for the window department...

First off the shop that replaced the regulator should have reset the auto-up feature.

Second, the link posted by toms89 is not the correct way to reset it per the manual.

There are 2 procedures you should to try, De-Initializing and then Initializing.

De-Initializing

1. Start with the key in the RUN position and open one front door.

2.*** Steps 2 & 3 must be preformed within 8 seconds***
Turn the key from OFF to RUN 5 times

3. Press the window switch to the one touch DOWN position ( second detent)and release.


Initialization

1. Start with the key in the OFF position and either front door open.

2. Turn key to RUN position

3. Press and hold the switch in the one touch DOWN position until the motor stall in the full down position for 2 seconds then release.

3. Wait at least 3 seconds then press and hold the switch in the one touch UP position until the motor stalls in the full up position for 2 seconds and then release.


Verify that the window function works correctly, if not repeat procedure.

I had it done at a body shop, not a dealer. He didn't know the procedure. I called my friend that owns several Ford dealerships. The procedure the mechanics said to use after replacing the regulator matches RI-Matt's "initialization" procedure, except that they said to hold for 5 seconds after you hit full down and full up.
