Hi Everyone,

I'm new here (I've actually been browsing here for months)

I'm getting close to pulling the trigger on a 2012 Limited and I had a question about the TPMS that I haven't been able to find using the search.

Here goes,

If I buy a second set of rims for my winter tires and put tire pressure sensors in them, do they automatically get picked up by the truck when I put them on the truck? Or do I have to go into the dealer each time I switch the rims over to reset the tpms or re-program the new sensors?

My wifes Acura is like this and it kind of defeats the purpose of switching the tires over myself. I have to go into the dealer anyway to get them to reprogram the second set of sensors in the winter rims, otherwise I get the TPMS light on all winter.

I only bought the second set of rims because there's usually about a month wait to get your tires changed over in the fall. So now I can change my tires myself, but I have to wait a month to get an appointment and they charge almost as much to program the sensors as changing over the tires lol.

Ir options are to go to any place to have them reset...doesn't have to be thw dealer...use the magnet approach...or break down the tires and swap the sensors to other wheels...when u swap get an alignment and tell them to reset it...

Question: Is it also depends on year on what kind of reset tool you are going to use? as someone told me it has 2 kinds of colors depending on the year.

I think the later years went to a band tpms versus the valve tpms... not sure what year started the band but it's a third gen

I think that's backwards. My 07 has the bands (had to replace one last time I got new sneakers for the bus...) so I would think the newer ones have the stem type.

Of course my old 02 had the TPMS that I kept in the console and was compatible with all wheel types and sizes....(called a tire pressure gauge!)
