Recently bought a 2005 Expedition XLT with the 5.4L Triton for $1,400. Its got 143,000 miles and it was great, but there's one reason I got it for so cheap. The motor and everything is strong, and it starts up everytime. Problem is that after it starts it begins acting starved for fuel and eventually sputters out. Havent touched it yet but i'm planning on replacing the fuel filter and pump, any ideas before I put it in the lift and tear into it?

Cam phasers and timing chain & guides if they're original. This was the first year for the 3V motor and the lack of oil pressure to the top of the motor was a huge problem. Any DTC codes ? Inspect all vacuum lines for leaks around the intake. A smoke test of the intake system is your best bet.
