I have a Ford expedition 2018 Platinum.
When I drive up my steep(30 degree hill) driveway at about 5 mph trying to line the car with the driveway, often the car will abruptly down shift by itself. I had a 2011 explorer and never experienced this downshifting coming up the driveway. This morning the car down shifted and I got the yellow wrench warning light, which is the "powertrain Malfunction / reduced power warning." Anyone know what is going on?

Computer likely stored a fault code if you got the wrench symbol. When I had that pop up I was switching to 4A and computer stored code for faulty ABS sensor. Can mean a multitude of things but computer likely can tell you the issue now.

Car is in 2a normal mode. Thanks for the info about the computer code. I will ask the dealer later this week.

Shut the ignition off and re-start. The pcm detected a throttle or transmission issue and reduced power, probably due to the hill you were on. Don't hold it on the hill, with the engine. Try keeping one foot on the brake and power through it.
