Is there a standard or average "ball height" (top of ball?) for trailers? I don't currently own anything towable, but I'd like to pick up a receiver/ball mount to have for when I have the need to tow something. I'd mostly be pulling a small boat or a u-haul trailer -- stuff like that. I'm trying to figure out what "drop" I should get for general use. For some reason, I think someone told me the ball height should be about 18". '04 EB Expy if it makes a difference. Thanks. -- Bud

It somewhat depends on the trailer, I have a 2 place snowmobile and small pop up camper trailer. I like to keep the frame of the trailer level or slightly pointed down in the front. The key is to have proper tongue weight ( the trailer tongue should be pushing down on the back of the truck ) This is accomplished be having more weight in front of the trailers axle than in back. Without proper tongue weight the trailer will be wagging like a dogs tail. If this happens just move some objects in / on the trailer to the front to make it push down some on the hitch. If the ball drop is not enough the front of the trailer will be in the air and weight transfered back and they tend to wag. Uhaul I beliv has some good advice on there website.
