Have you done plugs and COP boots yet. Your issue sounds like mine prior to me doing the tune up. After i have no misfires when accelerating only the noise at base idle and the occasional roughness give it any gas and it smoothes right out.

Thank you Doc!!
I do have a pretty decent scan tool. Once the weather breaks in next couple days (If you call the upper 20's low 30's a break LOL) I will hook up scan tool and drive around awhile.

Ok, so I realize that there are about a million Phaser knock threads on here. I've read a bunch but nothing that has been said quite fits part of the symptoms I seem to be having and I want to be sure I don't have a secondary problem to the Phaser knock.
My issue is this, Its on my 2009...
Its usually on a sticker on the module. I sorta remember an old post on here saying it was under the dash on drivers side. Im mobile at moment and unable to find it, but it should be in another post here somewhere.

The only thing i can think of is maybe it has an input in the back of the radio or someplace that you can plug into. That button was always mute on my older fords prior to even having aux inputs. As far as bluetooth goes though, it wasnt an option until 2009.

Could be alot of things. Most likely will probably need the trans rebuilt. If i remember right on the 1st gen trucks and older f150s the "blinking OD light is kinda like a "check engine light" for the trans. Hopefully whatever it is, it ends up being the cheaper fix

I dont know if you can use the oem setup from an f150 or not. But if its already got factory projectors, I would think you should be able to get an aftermarket HID kit and install it and be done. Id go 5000k bulbs which is a pure bright white. Should get you much closer to the color of the LED...
Run away from the BFG rugged terrains. They were on my 2009 when i bought it. Absolute worst tire i have ever had on a vehicle ever. Not too many people here when i had posted had much good to say about those tires either.
One to add to your list. Is the MULTIMILE Wild Country radial XTX...
I believe after alot of research it is more similar to the 2006+ crown victoria cluster issues. It is bad cold solder joints on some of the resistors. I just dont know which specific ones on our trucks are the ones needing the fix.

Going to do my own tune up. I want to build a parts purchase list. This is what i have so far. My truck is about to roll 100k miles.
I know i need
Motorcraft plugs,
Brown cop boots.
I have no codes so i dont think i need the actual cops yet??
The not totally sure list.
Pcv valve
I want to...
1250 advertising fee is very shady. Definitely try another Ford dealer.
The smallest i would go with 3 child seats in back would be an Explorer and depending on the seats may not be big enough.
I much prefer the look of the big suvs over all the smaller ones and i prefer having real RWD/4WD...
Im running multimile wild country radial xtxs in 275/65/18. Excellent all terrain tire and im super happy with them so far. Very reasonable pricing for the size. I paid around 170 a tire for them.

275/65/18 is actually the upgraded size ford went to on the 2013+ expys. It keeps your speedo right on the money. I just upgraded my 09 to this size and it looks and drives amazing.
I got Multimile wild country radial xtx's paid around 170 a tire. I can post up some pics if you want to see...
Whatever you do, dont get BFgoodrich Rugged terrain T/As. Awful tire on an Expy.
Are u looking for an all season tire or more of an all terrain tire when you replace the pirellis?
Only experience i ever had with pirellis was also bad. I had a Crown Vic and put a set of Mustang take off...
I had a feeling 2002 was too early to be LED bulbs. But have never been around a 1st gen expy. If you do pull out the cluster, I highly suggest you replace all bulbs burned out or not. I certainly wouldnt want to pull the cluster again in a few weeks when one of the other bulbs burn out.

What year is the truck? I believe Ford did switch to LEDs in some clusters but im not sure on expeditions what type of bulb is in which year.
In my old 2003 crown vic it was all 194 bulbs but by 2006 it was Leds.
Ive never heard of the vins not matching in the cluster causing a check engine...
My dealer told me $350 for a tuneup and mines a 2009 with the fixed plugs. I think rock auto has the plugs for around 11 bucks a piece not sure how much ford wanted. Definitely going someplace cheaper than the dealer for mine.

And here are the wild countrys.
I cannot believe how different they look, didnt expect the jump from 255 to 275 to fill out the wheel well as much as it did. The whole truck feels different when driving it. Although that may also be because i was stuck in a lincoln MKZ as a loaner for two...
Ok got my tires done. Here are some before and after pics. I went with the multimile Wild Country Radial XTXs. In 275/65/18
Here is before pics of the Bfgoodrich Rugged Trail T/As. I do NOT RECOMMEND these tires to anyone. Cant believe how bad they were in snow.
