Sporadic chirp--dont think it's the belt
Belt is indeed quite easy to get off and back on. May not be your issue but I've always gotten a squeak on the front of my truck (Dodge Ram) when the ball joints were bad.- xfiles67

Very true, never cheap. I've done the timing chain on my '01 Dodge Ram (with help), which is almost easy compared to these 5.4L's.- xfiles67

All pulleys have been spun, just 1 with a chirp, rattle still there with engine running without belt. Videos on first page.- xfiles67

One pulley was a bit wobbly with a squeal, just to the left and up from the oil filter, just to the left of the power steering pump. 142+ on the clock.- xfiles67

The noise, when standing near the vehicle, is the loudest when standing directly in front of the grille. Was really hoping it was the alternator..... :(- xfiles67

I've watched numerous Cam Phasers video's and one thing that seems to be a common noise is a diesel like sound, mine is more of a rattle, but in any event, have an update: Removed the belt, no strange noise from the alternator, best I can tell anyway, does seem I have a bad pulley, video's...- xfiles67

Start up rattle
I've read about people having the cam phasers "fixed" only to have noise again shortly again.... I'd let the shop say what the problem is, see if it's something they fixed.- xfiles67

Tag light Question
Just to wrap this up, the issue has been resolved. The other connector for the light bulb was up in the hatch a bit, pulled it through the hole and used 2 screw drivers to give a little access to that exterior trim without having to remove the interior panel, used a long skinny knife to move...- xfiles67

Ok gents, anyone know, besides a junk yard, where I could find a tag light bracket for a 2003 Expedition? I've googled around a bit and see the electrical connector but need that and mounting bracket. The hatch has 2 and one complete light plugin is missing, so it failed inspection for that...- xfiles67

What is the best oil to put in the 5.4L 3v
I use the MotorCraft Synthetic Blend, also have a bit of a "rattle" at startup, especially in the cold months, have thought about Lucas, reading that some have had success with reducing the noise I'm tempted to try it.- xfiles67

There are also some exhaust leaks, at the manifold on the passenger side, that can sound like crazy engine noise. Might double check that too. The same guy in the video I linked to above does a manifold job and describes the exhaust leak as compared to engine noises.- xfiles67
