    trouble getting out of "P"

UPDATE: 3 mornings/days without the issue recurring. Looks like the brake switch was indeed the cause of not being able to shift out of park. $50 for the part and 5 minutes under the dash - fingers are crossed that this is indeed it. Thanks to everyone for the guidance and help!

    trouble getting out of "P"

Replaced the brake switch at lunch. Easy job, indeed, and O'Reilly's around the corner had one in stock. Opened up the old switch to look around and two of the four contacts were scored/burnt like you might see with bad distributor points on an older vehicle. We'll see if this was the problem...

    trouble getting out of "P"

Hayes R - The shift lever (on steering column) was "locked" or stuck in park and wouldn't move from there. It did the same thing this morning as it did yesterday morning. First time I stepped on the brakes and tried to move the shifter it wouldn't budge. Waited 10 seconds tried again and it...

    trouble getting out of "P"

Got home without any issues today - no shifting issues at all. Ran the kids to a couple functions as well without problems. Thanks Big Brian - this is a great lead and I now know what to call it. Will check fuses as well when I get a chance.

    trouble getting out of "P"

2005 XLT, 2WD, 174k miles, shift on column... Went to go to work this morning. Started truck, pressed brake pedal, and I couldn't shift out of park. Pressed brake pedal again, still couldn't shift out of "P". Waited another minute or so and it worked properly. Drove to corner (100 yards)...

Who has stickers on their Expy and what are they?

I have local high school and my oldest's college sticker on my Expy. I also have a Tennessee "Save Our Battlefields" license plate which, sadly, I'm thinking about swapping out for a normal plate (after re-registration) as there are increasing tensions in this area, and the nation, about all...

    rhythmic noise while driving...

Well...the good news is that it wasn't the rear diff, but the right rear bearings so two different sets of mechanics were incorrect in their diagnosis. The noise is no more. Unfortunately dealer wouldn't help me at all with the fact that they changed the front bearing and it was the rear that...

    rhythmic noise while driving...

Travels finally allowed me to get this checked out independently...not good. This independent mechanic comes highly recommended and says the rhythmic noise if definitely coming from the rear diff - possibly the pinion as was suggested here by ChrisOIFdoc. The mechanic jacked it up and...

    rhythmic noise while driving...

Clutch pack in rear was replaced 5k miles ago, but i guess it could be something else in the rear differential. Will def take it to another shop soon. Any other thoughts as to what it could be are are welcome.

    rhythmic noise while driving...

'05 2WD XLT, 173k miles... Truck was/is making a rhythmic noise that was especially noticeable when coasting or accelerating around and through 25mph. Needed new tires anyway - mine were cracking and the tread was poor with uneven wear - so I went and got new tires from Discount Tire. Noise...

How much did you pay for your Expedition?

This is probably more than anyone want to know... 2005, 2WD XLT with 164k miles. Purchased August 2016 for $3500 and then...I stopped counting after $11,000 in repairs and service to keep it going for the past 12 months and 10k miles. NONE of the issues I've faced showed up on the 2 extensive...

the Gatorback link is good and functioning. I tried it using 3 devices and 2 different browsers.

Has anybody painted/plastidip the Eddie Bauer external trim?

If it's textured plastic trim (I don't know what the EBs have) and you want to go with black you should look into Gatorback Coatings https://gatorbackcoatings.com I used it on 2 Avalanches in the past and put it on my '05 Expedition this past November. Great stuff! As mentioned earlier prep...

    '05 seat part name/number needed

Part/cable arrived from the Ford dealer in Puerto Rico on Monday. Pulled the center seat and installed it today - it's working like a charm. Thanks again for the help in tracking down the correct part number!

    rear cargo power outlet problems?

i suppose it's possible that it's not making contact. I've tried 3 different devices - none work. I'll look into it though. I haven't have time to take all the plastic out to look at the splice and ground but a cursory look through the top after pulling the "tray" out and there's nothing...

    rear cargo power outlet problems?

I pulled all three of the power port/cig lighter fuses (37, 39, 41) and replaced them with new ones. Can you spot or share a wiring diagram showing the location of the rear cargo splice and ground? it could certainly be a loss connection there.

    '05 seat part name/number needed

Thanks. Kyle at Lakeland (not in stock) was very helpful and turned me onto the Puerto Rican dealership. Discount Ford and OEM said they didn't have them when I called today. BTW as a side note the people at Autos Vega Ford in PR were extremely helpful. They actually took the extra time and...

    rear cargo power outlet problems?

2005 Expedition XLT, 2WD. Trying to trouble shoot why the power outlet in the rear cargo area doesn't work. Other outlets work. All power outlet and cigarette lighter fuses are good. It's NOT vital that I get this part up and running, but it would be nice for powering a light or something...

    '05 seat part name/number needed

thanks everyone! I will start the search immediately. UPDATE: found one, finally, in Puerto Rico. There's one in Florida that was a special order for someone that the dealer is holding for pick up. Otherwise, according to the parts network that the Ford dealers use...that's it for North...

    '05 seat part name/number needed

2005 Expedition XLT. Based on my opener's manual, i'm trying to track down the following part: second row, middle seat (20% seat) release strap It's the strap or ring (located in the crack between bottom cushion and seat back) that you pull to allow the second row, middle seat to fold flat...

Gatorback Coatings - no more Armor All, Meguiar's, etc... I hope

I got tired of applying all these temporary Armor All-like substances to the 11 year old super faded cladding on my '05 Expedition so I decided to do something permanent about it, I hope. Having owned two Chevy Avalanches in the past with their cladding and bed panel fading issues I have some...

the 5.4L 3V fix - how long does it last?

"New to me" 2005 Expedition 2WD XLT with 166k on the clock. I bought it knowing that I'd have to do some work to it, but during my research into the truck I somehow overlooked all the engine issues of this model. I wish I'd seen this site/forum prior to purchase... Needless to say I've had...
