Have a 2006 expedition limited and the mpg on the dash is always between 13 to 13.2 mpg Even on the highway it doesn't get any higher. Thinking it should be a little higher especially on the highway. Any ideas

Double oil change (oil flush) :

Change filter and put in oil with seafoam or similar in first fill, then run it a bit at mid-high RPM and change oil again

Second batch use good DIESEL oil, perhaps Rotella T6 5w40, and another new filter wouldnt hurt. Add oil additive of choice, perhaps Liquimoly Ceratec.

Put some trusted injector cleaner in the gas tank.

Clean the airbox and use a new air filter.

For 2004 & older, use half a bottle of ZDDP in the crankcase.. but with 2006, idk, the instructions warn you not to, could mess up your cats.

An oil change will make the much of a difference. The oil seems to be clean

The mileage should change between city and highway driving. The indicator may not be working right. I get as low as 10 in the city and as high as 17 on the highway on a 03 EB 5.4. Fill the tank and record the mileage. Then take a highway trip refill and check again. It should be better than 13.

Reset the mpg indicator, and slowly went up to 17. Think it's fixed

My 06 got 13 average, on long trips at 75mph and cruise control on it got 14-15mpg. My 04 never got over 12mpg on a good day down hill with the wind.

I just sold our 2004, 5.4. DW drove it, all rural, no short trips, 25 miles to town. She averaged16.3 to 16.5. 17 - 18.5 on an 800 mile trip she took a couple times a year. She followed me when we wintered in Arizona and pulled about 4000# of toys, got right at 13.

Moved to LA area and I drove it here for eight months, city/suburban driving. Got 13.3 consistently. Sold with 156k miles on it.

What do you think caused your low mileage problem?

I have no idea. Crap gas in the North East? Only top tier fuel from Mobile, Shell or BP. 5-20 oil changed every 3000m. Mileage figures are based on miles driven and fuel quantity...both trucks do not have onboard info systems. Both of ours are 5.4 and 4WD running Michelin tires at 36-38 psi. Air filters are K&N.

Winter I get 12-13 all city with a light foot.
Summer 14-15. Took my 05 4x4 Limited on a 400 mile trip a few weeks ago and got 19.7 mpg out on the highway at around 70mph(115km/h here in Canada) suprised me it was that good

My 2006 does not have an instantaneous mpg display. It only displays the average over the period since the last reset, or 500 km, whichever is less (I think that's right - based on memory). So if you don't reset frequently, your average mileage for mixed city/highway driving tends to stay about the same. If you do a 500km+ highway drive it will slowly creep up.
