Its pretty crazy how over engineered modern vehicles are to prevent stupid human tricks. Modern cars have had to become nearly fully automated due to the lack of operational skill of most users. Because of that this sort of thing can be user error, sensor issues, or coding issues. Definitely need to check user error first. Then look for faulty switches or sensors triggering incorrect settings etc. Code issues caused by manufacturer differences in sensors and switches is also a ongoing challenge.

I know that Ford has “cow boy” code /logic in their trucks. Ie the stop to open cattle gates logic which also kicks in for trailer hook up behavior but its not as effective and can trigger weird vehicle responses especially when operator is doing weird things like getting out of the vehicle while left in reverse etc. Passenger monitoring ie passengers getting into/out of vehicles when vehicle isn’t technically operated in a correct manner - meaning placed in park aka not going to move while passengers exit/ enter the vehicle etc.

Probably one of the most important yet simple features many people aren’t aware of is automated brake lock up when accident detected. To stop secondary collisions etc. Whole lot of accidents happen and vehicles then continue on with driver oblivious to the fact they are going to crash yet again before finally stopping. Most new quality vehicles will now lockup brakes to prevent this running away secondary wreck issue that is super common.

The automated emergency brake has a whole pile of applications that definitely provide much needed improvements in vehicle safety but then we have computer logic and inconsistent order of operations by human operators to contend with.

The transmission control via logic and wire for sure has similar advantages and challenges.
