My truck feels like it's lost a lot of power over the course of 165,000 miles. I'm about to get a big bonus and I want to bring my truck in to get it tuned up and some maintenance done. What typically needs replacing/tuning/cleaning at 165k miles?

My coils were nasty over 100K, if you haven't done them take a look.

Headlights fade.

Diff oil.

Powersteering oil.

Brakes - pads and rotors

Of course, all this depends on how well you stick to regular maintenance.

Got the headlights taken care of. Just got a completely new brake system and pads about 20k miles ago. I change my oil and air filter every 3k miles. What can be done to the tranny to maximize its life? I just want to get it "tuned up" so to speak and check on the tranny. But I really don't know too much about engines so I don't even know where to begin. I don't trust Ford enough to just walk in there and say "Do what you gotta do."

Trans fluid, spark plugs, coils, air filter, fuel filter, maybe a custom tune to wake up the truck

Lol thanks. And "waking up" the truck may not be a good idea since my goal is fuel economy. Lol

replace 02 sensors (X4), clean maf & throttle body/plate, some good old lucas fuel treatment, change fuel filter, theres mixed feelingss but you can seafoam BEFORE you change your plugs/cops, change the trans fluid & rear diff fluid, power steering & radiator flush/ make sure pcv is still functional and clean, check hoses and belts, test your battery make sure its up to par instead of good enough, and finally make sure you check your alignment so theres no tow or anything of that nature. all of these dont need to be done at once but make sure you do/check them. I will be glad to talk you thru any of this. except alignment.. I leave that to the pros

Well I just got a brand new Interstate Megatron II battery and got my shit aligned less than 4 months ago. My belts are new as well. So that's a few things checked off of the list lol. How much do you think the parts to do all of this will cost. I'll do everything myself to save some money.

So what you really want is a pat on the back for taking very good care of your truck. Congrats on the achievement!

Lol no, what I really want is a truck thats still running smoothly at 250k miles. I guess I'll start off with cleaning the MAF, throttle body, and PVC valve since it'll cost nothing.

How do you clean the throttle body? I don't want to remove something that will mess anything up.

I just cleaned the MAF sensor and throttle body...neither of them were THAT dirty...but DAMN! Made such a big difference. My engine is MUCH more responsive now and idles WAY smoother. I think I'll do the spark plugs next. Do the 5.4 3V's even have a PCV valve?

its a good thing you actually keep up with your truck, now you dont have to throw 1000 into the truck to tune up, clean a few sensors and replace a few fluids and your good to go

replace the 4 o2 sensors and disconnect the truck batt (reset the computer) and youll see a lil better gas mileage. at least I did anyway

good luck with the plugs on the pass side the rear 2 are a real pain, the easiest way i found was to unbolt the pcm and remove the entire intake (which is when i cleaned myu throttle body) and it willl be a little easier.
