Please help!! I have a 2002 Expedition with 116,000 miles. It will occassionally idle up around 2500 to 3000 rpm while driving or in park. I changed the IAC and it seemed to help for a week, but now it is back. Sometimes you can push down on the gas pedal and it will drop down to normal. Has anyone experienced this? and if so where do I start.

Thanks Todd

Your throttle isn't sticking is it? The whole assembly right to the engine. 2500 rpms is pretty freakin high.

It could be sticking. This problem is so weird. I can go a few days and it runs fine, but just like yesterday my wife said it was doing it again. While your driving you will notice the rpms go way up and sometimes you can mash on the gas pedal and it brings it down. I know if I take it to a dealer it won't do it and they will charge me a bunch of $.

Took off the throttle body and cleaned it out. Everything was good for a few days then the service engine soon light came on, took it to Autozone and the code was something about the tb and MAF wires were not in sync. Let it go a few more days and the light is off and the car has been running great for 2 weeks.

I have to do this about once per year with my 1997 Taurus SHO.

I take off the intake hose to the throttle body, then spray cleaner on some paper towels, and by hand rub them in and out of the throttle body.

While I am doing this, I put something heavy, like a big book, on the throttle (with the engine off of course). Then I can get all around the butterfly.

I even clean the edges of the throttle plate.

The cleaner I use is GUMOUT Air Intake & Throttle Body (for fuel injected engines).
