Rotated the tires, adjusted the parking brakes so they actually work and inspected the front end in prep for taking it in for a full alignment.

Performed some 100k maintenance.

  • Replaced CoP
  • Replaced Spark Plugs
  • Cleaned Engine Bay

Not very exciting, but it's nice to have a reliable vehicle.

Started it up and went for a short drive to warm it up some.

Been sitting outside in the sub arctic temps of this latest cold snap without the ability to plug it in, so was worried about it starting tomorrow morning.

It was -34c yesterday morning when I got up (~ -30f), plus wind chill which I am told put it down to -45c. Weather warmed up considerably today though, was only -27c this morning...

I pulled her in the garage and let her idle for a bit to test my carbon monoxide resistance and then rubbed all the water off her so she doesn't have any water spots. She is so happy now and tomorrow I will give her a waxing she will never forget....

That's like saying you shot your leg to test how much pain you can take haha.

I put new brake pads on the passenger rear. They were dragging pretty bad. The temperature got up to 0F today so I figured this may as well be the day to get it done...

Hopefully the other side lasts till it warms up. If it warms up.

EDIT: Oh and I plugged in my antenna finally! I installed a new HU a couple of weeks ago only to find that my radio wouldn't actually radio... Minor oversight during installation and didn't have time to fix it until now.

I have been having a nightmare of a time with the digital compass/temp display in my expedition, I soldered it with the instructions on YouTube and it fixed the problem for a bit but it eventually stopped again for good. Got another one at the junk yard and soldered it, same thing worked for acpl months but it died also... Finally on my 3rd unit and I HAD2 resistors made up to replace the faulty 510 chips that go bad in these things.

Now it works nicely...

What is a snatch block?

It's a pulley you attach to something to change the direction of a cable used in inching. We use them all the time in the towing industry. It can also be used to multiply force on a winch line. They are also used in cranes for that purpose.

Front brakes were making a strange vibration/humming sound when coming to a stop and the driver’s side front brake was dragging/not completely releasing. Removed the calipers and pads, cleaned out the hunting season mud and sand (don’t forget the rubber bolt sliders), cycled the cylinders a couple of times, wire brushed, high temp lubed all contact points, quick one man bleed on the fronts. Re-assembled the unit, feels and sounds like new!

Changed COP #8

After staring at my check engine light for two weeks, I finally changed my COP on #8 cylinder today. Unhooked the battery to reset the computer, cleaned the post and terminals put it all back together...no more engine light. Saved some $$. Thanks to the folks on this forum who have done it and shared the how to.

Suggest you spend a little time on youtube. I had the same questions about a week ago. I learned a lot about winching and using the snatch block. just so happened the following weekend I was doing some trail riding and came upon a guy that needed assistance. I put that youtube training to good use and helped out a fellow trail rider.
