Hello ford people :favorites37:

Well first off im a chevy guy so i dont know jack about these engines. all the experience ive had with this so far really reinforces my loyalty to the god ole GM guys.

Anyways my future ex wife was very misguided and was scammed into buying this nightmare.:Stupid Me:

I am trying to make this thing reliable but its definitly an uphill struggle.

Here are the problems I've been cursed with: first someone, for some reason retapped and plugged this

I would guess this is a heater hose but I really have no clue so if someone could tell me what this is, it would be greatly appreciated.

second it drives alright i guess except for when you get around 50 or so it'll start like hesitating or something it feels like its missing or something. but when this is happening it wont really rev up at all...its really irritating and hard to distinguish what it could be. If anyone has any insight on this it would also be greatly appreciated.

well lets see if we can change your attitude about FORDS

It appears that the previous owner has made some changes to the heater hoses and may possibly bypassed the heater. Those hose clamps are not OEM and it looks like a flush kit has been installed.

Does the heater work in the expy??

Is the Check engine light on??

When you first insert the key in the Ign Switch but don't start it Just turn the key to the run position Does the Check engine light come on along with other lights. This test the warning circuits and shows the lights are good.

The hesitation you are experiencing could possibly be due to the exhaust ports that go thru the throttle body are clogged This is a typical problem with the 4.6 engine. It would involve removing the throttle body and cleaning the exhaust ports There are some good videos on youtube on this procedure. Not a difficult or costly repair just requires two gaskets and some throttle body cleaner and time to do the work.

How many miles on the expy?? When was the last time plugs and coils were changed.

The heater doesnt work... the check engine light is on...theres a huge bolt tapped into the manifold lol... and i got a scanner, i cant remember the codes exactly but there was two and they were egr related.

I guess the "dpfe sensor" was repalced by the previous owner and didnt fix the problem.

if i has to guess id say the coils have not been changed ever by looking at them. and of course the odometer is not functional.

I would take a guess and say that the heater core may be blocked and that is most likely why a flush kit was installed.

I had a similar problem with my 99 with a 4.6 engine and it finally ended up being the dpfe sensor

Again I would clean the ports thru the throttle body Change the plugs and coils if needed or at least install new plugs and boots Use dielectric grease on the wire inside of the boots and a small amount on the connector contact area.

Check the condition of the hoses on the dpfe sensor and replace if needed

Read the codes and post the numbers I'll look them up and send you some information

Also again what is the mileage on the expy

The odometer problem is an easy fix but the Inst cluster has to be removed and repaired Problem is a cold solder joint Good videos on youtube about this common problem

and ya the heater was definatly bypassed for some reason or another

most likely a blocked core. But pull the right side kick panel and look under the carpet for any signs of rust in case it was due to a leaky heater core. The dash would need to be pulled in order to replace the heater core

Chevys are friends not food lol.

As far as the heater core goes. Its not as daunting a task as it seems. And there are good videos to cover that too. Just don't use the ford clamps if you don't want to buy a tool to remove them later. As far as everything else goes. It seems like this is a truck that has suffered from lack of proper care. Best of luck.
