I think I have an exhaust leak, from the front end, likely the front left manifold as the front right was just replaced. There is a slight tick at idle and heavy tick on acceleration. tick at freeway speeds can be heard when the radio is off but isn't too loud.

My real question is this. I have to make a 300 mile drive this weekend (50% 70mph freeway 50% 55 mph highway) and I know a manifold leak can destroy your heads and valves. Do you think I would be fine driving it and taking it in Monday or would I destroy my expy? Is there anything I can do to minimise the risk of warping the head or burning up the valves?

Thanks!

I wish it was that easy but it seems like I don't have much of a choice. It's my only way to work.

That and when I called my mechanic say I was bringing it in Monday I brought it up and he said that I shouldn't worry. Apparently people drive them with leaks for years and they are still fine. One trip will make no difference.

Hi there. If the leak sounds likes its coming from the left side, the EGR tube has probably rusted through. A much easier part to replace than the manifold.

Close! I got it replaced and it was the manifold. The guy that sold it to me just packed the leak between the manifold and the head with silicone so it only lasted a couple days then blew out. The EGR was bad also though.
