They don't seem adjustable, as in the pic seems most of your light beam is aimed more to the floor than the garage? Can you try shimming the bottom to give it a better aim?
Your modification reminds me of an old thought I had, with this set up the back is clear as day but the sides are pitch black, is there a way to engage the mirror puddle lights when in reverse to help you see if you are too close to an object like a flower bed or a parking spot line?
