Juan, how clean is the engine bay? Post a pic if possible. And how much rust/corrosion is there around the battery & pcm?

BigBrian we are headed in that direction. Coil on plugs are great until you need to check for spark. Do you have a tried and true method without pulling the plug/coil?

Pump replaced 4/15/12 bill was few hundred dollars.

I swapped out the relays during no start condition and the truck didn't start. the last relay is still in there.

Yes, I still have all of the old ignition coils and a spark plugs plus spares. I even got a complete 2001 lower intake to TB sitting on the shelf.

I love having first timers hold plugs and wires. Breaks up the frustration

Engine bay is pretty clean, due for a wash between now and June after the rain (April Showers) are done. It's pressure washed about every six month. Bay was pressure washed and scrubbed down, firewall repainted 9/15

Battery changed this past winter.

afraid not. You can use a spark tester attached to the coil once it is out and verify spark that way and leave the plug in

Swapped the PCM relay with the original relay from the fuel pump. If the PCM fails then that relay was bad. There was no discoloration, no corrosion or burn looks new.

the problem is elsewhere

check for spark

the engine needs 3 things to start. Fuel. Ignition.Compression.

verifying spark would point me in the direction of what to look at next.

missed your earlier comments You have old parts? What happened there?

Maybe there is a loose connection somewhere from previous work is why I ask

thanks

Waiting for next No Start Condition..... It's running now since 3:40pm EST.
Can't check for no spark til then.

Had a bad rebuilder do my previous engine, it failed. To many problems with the work they did. So I swapped it out myself. Was not going to pay someone else to do it again and find out they didn't properly reassembling the engine as well as breaking and missing parts. Every single missing part, nut and bolt was replaced. The same way it came from factory is how it was reassembled. External parts were replaced with new parts. All gaskets and seals changed. Wire harness checked and wrapped, Sensors tested and reinstalled. There is a thread here on the site somewhere goes back to 2015.

As far as connections go every single one was checked at least four times as well as all torque specs. I'm kind of **** like that.

What connection would cause then engine to stall and not restart for 20 minutes at a time?

you guys will think i'm madd, but.... check your transmission fluid level, and if what i think could be happening is happening, it stands a good chance of being burnt... i'm suggesting, in short, that the TCC is misfiring and locking your T/C which will stall the engine with a quickness, and unlock the moment it loses charge. if while driving you drop the rpms below stall speed and the tc remains locked (doesn't disengage), same thing. could be caused by an abrasion on the wiring causing short or charge jump, or could be a faulty connection....

you said you removed the engine for work.... those things are super easy to crimp crush or break when stabbing the engine to the transmission.

very interesting thought

thinking about it, if that was the case then the engine would not crank over when its in the no start condition

is that what is happening?

Waiting for next no start condition. No issue this morning though. Got a good working coil and plug waiting. Checked battery terminals they are tight. Check codes today with my scanner nothing stored or pending No tranny codes either. Watch some live data Rpms look fine at idle. I check the fluid in it last week seemed ok still pink had to top it of about two years ago nothing since though. RPMs are surging every now and then but the pcm compensates and revs it back up, sometimes it will stall after. Truck does have the shutter problem but that's been off and on for since i bought the truck.

It just runs fine data all looks ok from what I can tell / see. I'll be driving shortly see if anything happens. I was trying to see if the live data had a voltage reading. Wanted to see if the voltage was dropping when the truck was stalling. No luck

Since yours is a northern truck and is exposed to salt in the winters, it wouldn't hurt to inspect and clean the grounds to the engine and pcm.
Only trouble is I won't be able to tell you the locations until later tonight.

Hopefully bedrck47 will see this and provide the locations sooner.

Checking the grounds is an outstanding comment. Seen that a few times.. it usually is accompanied by strange electrical issues too.
