Hello all,
I'm looking for a 2015-2017 Expedition EL Platinum. I've been reading the official brochure, looking at window stickers, etc. and would like to understand the available suspension options as I'm planning on towing a travel trailer.

Is the rear load leveling suspension option the same as the continuous control suspension option? If I try to build my own 2017 from the website, it doesn't even let me pick either option if I choose the EL Platinum.

Is this standard in the platinum lines or a dealer option (2015-2017)? I see on window stickers sometimes continuous control system (no charge) and others rear load leveling ($1000). The two dealers I visited today didn't seem to know. This makes me think it's two separate options.

Thanks!

Whenever you see the 22Inch wheels the Expy has CCD. The 22's are standard on Platinum, therefore so is CCD.

Rear Load leveling shocks on the 15+ is a different set of shocks manufactured by Nivomat. Same as what GM uses. They use special valves to adjust mechanically after a short drive for increased load.

You can't have both, but with the Heavy Duty Trailer Package, both equipped options are capable of towing 9100 in an EL.

I have a limited with HD Trailer and the added load leveling shocks. Not a fan of the Ford 22's, so I stayed away from the CCD.

That explains it - thanks! The only correction I'd have is that the 22" wheels are still an option on the platinum. That explains why some platinum vehicles have one verus the other.

The CCD suspension is standard on the Platinum and it pretty much comes with all the options. 22" wheels are standard and there is no option for 20" wheels.

The 2015 and 2016 platinums had the lls as options which comes with a set of 20" wheels. 2017 platinums only come with ccd and 22in, im guessing from the low take rate of the lls on platinums.

I have a 2016 platinum EL with 20" rims and no CCD. It is optional on the limited, king ranch, and platinum models and only comes with 22" wheels if you want it

I guess that's the way it was in 2016 but in 2017 it is standard on the Platinum and you only get 22" wheels. It is unavailable on any other trim level. I've configured 2017 Expeditions any way possible when I was thinking about order one. If I could have bought a Platinum off the lot I would have bought one because I really wanted the CCD suspension.

That's interesting that they did that change. Thanks for the knowledge!

There's a Ford website that will show the "build sheet" based on the VIN. I've lost the link though. :(

The sheet is super detailed and I used it to discover features on my '17 that were not mentioned on the sticker including options I wanted but saw no mention. Also indicated the car/truck color. Mine is Absolute Black which is different from the "???? Black" on the sticker.

Wheels and tires show as I recall.

Do you have to register at www.etis.ford.com to get access to your build sheet? It let me look up my VIN, but very little info was displayed. Thanks! :)
You didn't used to have to register for the that site but you do now. It's free, register as an independent repair station (or whatever they call it) and then you can get the build sheet. That's what I had to do.

Buddy of mine bought a 17 Platinum EL with 20's and LLS. You can build these trucks anyway you want if you pay for it

I wonder how he did that because it is not available in the configurator. I am surprised that Ford would even build it that way.

We looked at a used 2017 Platinum today that did not have CCD suspension and it came with 20-inch wheels. I didn't check the window sticker, but it's a good bet this truck was also ordered with load-leveling rear shocks.

Are you sure it wasn't a 2016? I think it would difficult to find a used 2017 vehicle.
