I just downloaded the update and I will install in here this afternoon. Here is what Ford says is in the update:

What's included in this update?
JL1T-14G381-AJ SYNC3 v2.3

This software release is the latest update in our continued efforts to improve system performance, device connectivity, and the overall SYNC experience.

This software contains all previous enhancements, so there is no need to install any other updates. The installation of this update will take up to 60 minutes to complete. DO NOT remove your USB drive or turn off your vehicle. You must wait until Installation Complete is displayed on the center screen before removing your drive or turning your vehicle off.

While the update is loading, SYNC will not recognize your mobile phone or media device. Be sure your vehicle engine is running (not in accessory mode) throughout the entire installation process. Although your vehicle must be in park when you initiate the installation process, once the download process has begun, you may drive your vehicle.

It did take a while for my system to update. So long I thought it was hung up. But it did eventually finish. I wish the update message had some kind of indication it was working to have a little feedback during an almost one hour process.

It says that it will take upwards of an hour to update. It's 30 degrees outside today, I am not looking forward to sitting outside that long but at least the engine will be running. :D

I think I'll take my laptop out to the truck and respond to my student's discussion questions. :)

Thanks for posting about the update, I check it every month or so, so I wouldn't have looked for another month.

Bringing your laptop out and doing some work in the rig is the perfect way to pass the time!

Well mine failed to update. The first time it ended in about 3 minutes but I didn't see the message why it stopped. I reset it and started again. I waited an hour and 20 minutes and then gave up and shut if off. Now it shows "updating system software..." even when I restart. I know @LokiWolf published the reset procedure but I haven't located it yet.

It say it takes an hour to update but I don't have anywhere to go where I have to drive that far.

Plug it in and leave it, it will finish in a couple drives. Hold Power and Next Track button for at least 6 seconds for a hard reboot. I highly recommend the reboot before you plug the usb drive in.

So it will not hurt turning it off and on if it hasn't finished updating?

Let me ask a dumb question - I don't play cds, what is the next track button. Does it say next track or does it have a symbol?

Okay I figured that out. I went out and started it and it said update complete. I restarted and it still showed the 2.2 version. I did the hard reset and it then showed the 2.3 version but because I didn't have the USB drive in it didn't write the file to upload to ford so I guess ford will have to figure it out on it's own. :)

It is better to do it in 1 sitting, but leaving the truck running is not a requirement, just ACC. I start it, get started, then drive home from work(25 minutes), turn off when I get home and immediately turn back on without starting(Turn Radio off, HVAC, and lights). Come back out in 20, start back up, and after a few it shows done.

I have had people just leave it in and drive short trips for a few days, and it eventually says complete.

How do I get the 3.3 update? When Sync directly connects to my home network it tells me I have 3.2 and there is no later version.

Over the air updates are not available. Must download file to USB drive via Ford Owners site. Also, it is Sync 3 version 2.3 that is the current version Andy is talking about. What year is your truck?

Andy, Just realized I didn’t answer the button question. The Right Seek or Forward Seek button is the Next Track button. You have to use the Hard buttons.

Thanks, I guessed and got it right. I haven't played a CD in a vehicle in probably 10 years. Everything I have is digital or satellite.
