It has it for most roads around me but not all. And it is a little speed limit sign unless you have enabled data entry in motion mod, then it’s a red outlined white circle like what is used in Europe.

Does anyone know how to get the gear indicator to show in the little screen left of the main info screen?

Put your Expy in gear, then press ‘-’ on shifter handle...you should then be able to see the gears.

Oops...didn’t realize you had a ‘18. I’ll have to pay attention to the title.

So you have to manually shift it. That sounds right most automatics don’t display the gear unless you are in manual. I know that is how the Explorer works.

No manual shifting required. If it’s not showing the gears, press the “+” button and it will start to be displayed. Press it again if you want to stop it from being displayed.

So the +/- buttons dont shift it, they toggle the display? That doesn’t seem right.

RTFM! LOL I’m just kidding but it’s all spelled out pretty straightforward in there.

Well that is actually different than what you guys are stating. You are stating that the +/- buttons are a toggle for gear display. They actually are not. Pressing the button, actually gets it into PRS mode and is awaiting another input or inputs. But that still leaves the question, how do you manual shift?!?! If it isn’t through the buttons. On any other ford I have ever driven, in normal drive mode, you can press +/- to up or downshift. Without being in manual. Say you just want to override a downshift to pass someone quickly or it has downshifted on hill for you and you want to upshift. You can do these actions and the automatic will regain control right afterwards.

pressing the + or - once will make it display, but still full auto.
if you want to be in manual, put the vehicle in manual, and use the + and - buttons to shift up and down.

it's very straight forward when you are sitting in the driver seat.

@edizzle...have you tried sitting in the drivers seat and used the recommendations made above? Let us know if it doesn’t work...that will be interesting.

Yes interesting indeed!

I am not arguing as to whether what you guys are saying is true or not. I am saying that up until a couple of posts ago, several people have stated that to get the gearshift indicator to populate you simply press the plus or minus button. While there is truth to that it is not quite accurate. As the manual posted above states, pressing the button enables PRS mode which in turn, is awaiting further input to select gears that you do not want to access. That is absolutely different than saying the plus and minus buttons are toggle buttons to simply display or not display the gearshift indicator!

As far as the plus minus not shifting the transmission, that just seems like a change for 2018 as I have owned several other fords and the plus/minus could always be used to shift no matter whether you were in auto or manual. It was nice to simply press up or down when needed quickly without having to shift into manual mode.

This is my first ford, coming from a dodge grand caravan, but i can say it worked the same as the ford, if you started bumping the [-], it would remove available gears from auto. so if you were already in the top gear, bumping - would have the same effect of a downshift, as it removes the current gear from the options. I would usually do this when downshifting for long downhills. The ford performs the same, you can [-] a few times to force it to downshift, then [+] again to allow those gears to be selected again (and up shift by using your foot).
