just thought I’d post this video as the manufactures are telling us 10k oil changes are ok. Honda did the oil changes as suggested by them at their intervals on a ridgeline and look at the inside of the engine.... sludge central.... change your oil more often than what they say!!! These long oil change intervals are NOT good for your vehicle.

We do once a year on the Expedition running Amsoil full synthetic with Amsoil oil filter. So it’s about 9,000-12,000 miles.

I do the same for the Shelby. Granted, that’s about 800 miles.

My Expedition and MDX get the oil changed around 5k. So far that’s about the mileage range I get when the oil monitor is around 10%. Both get quality synthetics so I think that mileage is fine

My CTSV gets it every 3k miles no matter what. It’s a high boost, heads, cam car and I’m running ethanol in it so fuel dilution in the oil is a big thing. That car only gets Royal Purple HPS and RP filters.

Yes, the Toyota Sienna van had the same sludging issues....prob for the same reasons but with those, it wasn't high mileage intervals.....so I'm not really sure these are either? Could the sludging be caused by other than long intervals? That might be the first question......

If I remember correctly, the vans issue was that the drain holes in the head were too small, too few causing the frothing which is death to oil.....

I know it might be overkill but I run Mobil 1, change out about every 6-7k. I buy the 6 packs of 5-w30 from Napa at. $5.99 each. Filters I have 5 of got great deal on those. I'm so used to old days when 3k was the norm, this is easy.

My 2014 EL tells me when to change ... at around 6K miles usually. I do mostly highway miles with that vehicle. I've noticed on this Forum that most people use synthetic. I have never used synthetic but think I'll switch over to that from now on.

If you buy the 5qt jug at Wal-Mart you'll save a few dollars.

Haven't found much better than $5.99 qt. Nearest Walmart is over in the east bay, 30 miles or more. Between fuel and bridge the little I save ain't worth it.

ole red has it done every 6 months for me (odo broke) as supercharger is also lubricated by the engine oil feed.

the other two cars have pre=paid maintenance so they go when the reminder pops.

See here's the thing I don't understand, maybe I'm dense, but doesn't oil get sludgy and dirty as miles progress running through these motors? Now I know full synthetics are lab rats of motor oils, so they take a lot to break down. But somebody school me on this. If you've got tiny passages on lifters, bearing main caps, and so on that your required to run a 5/w20 oil, which is like h20, then running dirty oil, anything above say 5k, has got to spell trouble, and seems to the longer I'm on this forum. Growing up in the late 50's and 60's, we had a 53 Pontiac wagon with a 268 straight eight motor. That motor didn't use a oil filter at all, it used a catch sludge shelf in the oil pan, that was only to be cleaned if pan was removed. Story short, motor dumped at 80k. My family drove vehicles till they died. Didn't know engines yet, I was still riding my sting ray bike. I'm with the majority, like your body, keep it clean, and changed!

I ran Amsoil Full Synthetic 5W 30 through my 04 Navigator (5.4 4V) and it was not happy on start ups. The valve train would tap for about 2 to 3 seconds before pumping the oil up. This would happen if the engine was off for more than 20 to 30 minutes. As expensive as that oil was I didn't hesitate to dump it out within 2 days as the cost of scored cams, rockers etc. outweighed the $70 for 7 quarts. This was when I was in Texas still in the Spring season so it was pretty warm outside. I put Motorcraft 10W30 in and it was fine after that. I just assumed synthetic oils were too thin and I never ran them in any of my modular motors after that. I did keep the Amsoil oil I dumped to add to oil levels in all of my cars and never had issues though.
