I get severe air reverberation in the cargo area when front windows are down and driving at a moderate speed. I know if i lower the rear windows that reduces it, but is there any other way to reduce. In my old armada i could open the rear side panel windows remotely to reduce.

I’ve haven’t had it bad with the front windows down so much as I have found the buffeting the worst with the roof open to the full rearmost position. Sounds like a chinook when flying overhead.

Ours gets a good deal of wind rush with the roof open but thats expected. With windows down no reverberation, drummin, droning whatsoever

It is my experience this has happened in every car I have owned to some degree. It is worst when the kids in the back open windows all the way and the front windows are closed. I think it has to do with the air pressure imbalance. Cracking a window say in the rear usually helps. Also closing the sunroof a bit helps too, as does the weather tech wind deflectors.

I realize that this is not a new problem or isolated to the Expy, it just seemed significantly worse than in other SUV's I have owned

I opened my windows and sunroof today for the first time to see if I had the same experience and I must say the large windows and sunroof produce some serious wind flow. I can’t say it is excessive given the size of the openings are as large as they are but I can say that when the rear window is cracked it does help with the buffering phenomenon. That being said any speed over 30 mph with either the windows or sunroof open produce a wind tunnel inside the vehicle. I doubt I’ll open the windows again unless completely necessary.

My 2010 Expedition Limited has the power opening rear windows (this window in the cargo area tilt out). This is a key feature for me (prevents wind buffeting, great for when you carry a smelly load like gasoline or when hunting).

Do any of the new model have these windows?
Could be an upgrade deal breaker for me.

The design engineers have apparently abandoned features we have come to like. We have a ‘18 Platinum. Alas, no rear vent windows. Guess they thought with all the new gee **** stuff we wouldn’t notice what they left out.

Sadly, this feature is no longer available but you can open the tiny tailgate window for some reason, I have no clue what you could fit through that thing.

On my older model, opening the glass gave useful access to stuff near the rear without opening the hatch and spilling the cargo on the driveway. On the new one, you have to be at least 6' to reach in there. The floor hatch cover can be positioned to make an almost useless package shelf just inside the glass. The better position is locked vertically to form a dam that keeps stuff from spilling out when the hatch is opened.

Related to this is the foot sensor. I've had it inadvertently open the hatch while I was reaching in through the open glass. I haven't found a way to switch off this feature without disabling the buttons also.

I’ve also accidentally activated it while changing diapers with my kid laying in the back as I lean against the bumper.... this makes perfect sense to me seeing as the thing is activated by moving feet, I can always disable if it’s that big a deal. On the plus side it won’t activate hardly at all on the right side of the bumper due to the trailer hitch (apparently getting the tow package causes this) so I just make sure to deal with diapers on the right sidebar of the truck.

My book shows one sensor in the middle without the tow package, one on each side with the tow package. I need to crawl under mine and see how I can block them. In theory it's an aid to open the hatch when your hands are full. I guess they think we all have excellent balance when our hands are full and then we have to move out of the way once the hatch starts moving.

I crawled under mine to look but never found them. The Lincoln owners manual shows the same instructions as the Expy according to your description. I’m pretty sure you can turn the feature off if you wish but don’t quote me on that.

There is an option in the Expy menu tree, but it also turns off the buttons on the hatch and the glass. Perhaps when ForScan gets caught up with all the new stuff there will be a bit that can be flipped to turn off just the foot sensors. There is also a warning in the book recommending turning it off if you are hose washing your car as splashing water under the rear can activate the hatch. It's probably easier to just lock the car and leave the fob in the house.

Curiosity got the best of me and I started looking under there myself. I found a rectangular box about the size of a pack of cigarettes inside the bumper near the left frame member. Moving my hand near it outside of the bumper triggers the hatch operation. I’ve found nothing on the right side. The only other thing I see under there is the cable going to the bumper mounted proximity sensors. When it stops raining, I’ll try wraping some tinfoil around that box to see if it disables the hatch operation. The Expy does have a menu option to disable the power lift, but foot action will still unlatch the hatch.

That's what I was afraid of. I guess I will nurse my 2010 along as far as I can. I use the flip out windows ALOT.

How do we turn this feature off?

Guys, just to be sure I understand, the 2018's do not have the power rear window vents?

No they do not. I’m curious as to how helpful they could possibly be!!
