Looking for a solution, had my truck regeared to 4.56s and I replaced the front axles because they were shot, with the new axles in I’m getting grinding on turns and over bumps, which I’m told is due to the hubs staying engaged (stuck in 4WD) and I’m apparently hearing the typical binding just at higher speeds. I need a fix for that so they won’t be engaged at all times because they’ll break my axles very soon with the angle they sit at. I’ve replaced the IWE solenoid before and the transfer case motor but as far I know the hubs are original, wheel bearings are original, and the lines are original. Bought truck with 122k now has 155k 2006..
thanks

Is it a grinding or a ratcheting? IWE failure usually sounds like a ratchet.

Have you checked the solenoid for vacuum?

Have yet to check the solenoid and wheel ends as i just got the truck back 1 hour ago and it’s dark here. What’s happening is I get sort of vibration or grinding noise when turning or going over bumps especially under load. My shop told me they think it’s partially stuck in 4WD but I was able to shut off advanctrac in 2HI and spin the back tires without the fronts budging. And so you know he noise was still present

Check your 4wheel activator attached to CV, solenoid on firewall and vacuum hose.

I will once the weather is a bit better... my biggest concern is the noise, I get a rumble strip sound on right turns only and over bumps. No clue what’s causing it

If it is the activators they have gear like teeth that engage and if only partially dis-engaged when turning you could be getting the sound when the teeth slightly come in contact. The activator solenoid had an issue with water dripping on it. The new ones have a cover. If that is your issue

I have the new IWE solenoid with the cover (the piece under the hood up on the passenger firewall area) but maybe I have a plugged vac line and the drivers side hub is partially engaging and that’s the grind noise I’m getting over turns and bumps ?

Have you resolved this? I'm experiencing the same. I have vacuum at the hubs, replaced the bearings (one did need replaced) and went ahead and replaced the actuators (230k miles). I can't find a vacuum leak but suspect I'm not getting the 20-22 lbs at the hubs like needed. I plan to pick up a vacuum gauge but haven't done so yet. Came across this thread on a hunt on how to find vacuum leaks.
