So I tried to manually search for the update via WIFI , and it is still not showing up.
Current software is the same as when the dealer re flashed it in DEC. v2.3

Instructions state any flash drive must be completely reformatted (not quick formatted) and the format is specified. Your computer may default to different format.

There are several methods to fix or reformat a "bad" flash drive.

Chuck what are the methods to fix a bad flash drive. I'll try them before I send it back. I did the full format for the exFAT. I've tried using the command window and dos to delete the files it let me do it but then when I looked at them in windows, all of the files were back. I keep getting I/O errors so I think the drive is bad.

To get the major updates, like 2.3 and 3.0, you must use the thumbdrive method. It will not update via Wi-Fi.

I don't know exactly what the WiFi update feature actually updates, but I've seen it working.

Micro disks have a common problem that results in the file system being "locked", and turns itself into a brick. I've had 2 Sandisc 32Gb Micro SD cards lock.

Here is a helpful link. There's not much you can do, though. At least you haven't lost any data. https://www.remosoftware.com/info/fix-error-sandisk-sd-card-wont-format-windows

Not quite accurate...you can update to 2.3 or 3.0 via Wi-Fi, but it seems hit or miss. USB is definitely the best/most efficient way to update.

I am still wondering why the instructions seem to imply that the vehicle needs to be 'running'? I did the last one with the Expedition in the 'ON' position but engine not running. Is this the way most of you do it....too.?

In theory it will work over Wifi, but does seem hit or miss, and depends on many stars aligning. Go to the Ford Owner site and download it. Follow Ford's instructions, and you should be good to go.

I do a combo, start the truck and get it started, turn off the motor and back to “On” without opening the door. I sit and play mindless games on my phone, or watch YouTube on my iPad, if cold I might start it back up. If I am driving a good distance and don’t need Nav I will do it then.

Running is better, because unless you have upped the timeout via FORScan, you could have the unit turn off. My timeout is much longer than stock, so no issue there.

The instructions specify (not imply :) ) to leave the vehicle running but others report success just Ignition On. Good instructions are designed to be failsafe, hence leave it running. I did most of my update running back from errands and only a few minutes idling.

Now I gotta get out Forscan and reset the "keypad access while driving" or whatever it's called.
