I have a 2010 Expedition and I want to replace the interior lights with LEDs. (more light, less battery drain while camping).

Anyway.... I have searched the internet and watched some videos but I can't seem to remove the overhead console in the front (with the map lights, sun glass holder, and mirror).

I don't want to break anything.

Does the whole console pull out? Or does the front half pull out separately ?

Any advice or links greatly appreciated.

Just the lense will come off.

Open the sunglasses holder first. This will create a very thin space that you can insert your index finger into to release the lense assembly clips. One on each side. You'll use kind of a push in, pull down maneuver.

I did this twice, once to install LEDs, and a second time to reinstall incandescent bulbs. I did not enjoy the clinical appearance of the LEDs.

Found a video here:

Alternatively the entire unit pulls strait down.

Interesting. I did manage to drop the back of the lenses, but I didn't see how to drop the front. I will try this when the snow melts around here.

We'll see about the color I guess.

Just insert a vinyl prybar along the edge and give it a gentle tug

I have no sun roof, so I have the long console. (3 sections). Do you think the whole thing pulls out as 1 section?
