2000 Eddie Bauer 10 city, 14-15 long highway trips over 60 miles. I'm running 20 inch street tires, probably accounts for 1 mpg at least. Anything 11 mpg city or higher is normal. Your at 11.9 don't mess with anything! Keep your tire pressure at 75 percent of max on side of tire. Example max 50 psi, keep around 41-43 psi. My owners book says normal city mpg 11mpg. Keep a clean air filter/fuel filter, have wheel alignment checked once a year.

7.4 Habbibie your running real fat! Mine even with a bunch of idling is 9mpg. Do you pass smog checks in Chicago?

Moose everything in mine is stock last week I was averaging 9.6 but as soon as I changed my fuel filter and air filter it turned into a different truck. Still planning on exhaust and good intake. Tonight I’m running some sea foam through my intake cause I feel my cats are blocked up a little

No smog just emissions testing, it's been hovering around this number since I acquired it two years ago

Personally I don't believe in any of the additives off the parts shelf. Some here do. You actually could possibly make the converters worse. One guy suggested mixing one gallon of lacquer thinner to 3 gallons of 87 Oct gasoline. I'm always leary of these home clean outs.
Why not just measure with a temp gun at each of the 4 cats, inlet and outlet. Temp should be 100 degrees hotter on exit side. Or hook up a vacuum gauge with a long hose and take a ride. Either test will tell you if all 4 are clear and doing their thing. A plugged cat will make a vacuum gauge slowly drop towards 0. The fact your mileage jumped so significantly tells me your air filter was really plugged up! I'd spray out and clean my throttle body, and give your maf sensor a good dousing of maf cleaner. Good luck.

Yeah I’ve seen the reviews on using lacquer thinner but watched one good video that showed no improvement from using it. But I have seen a lot of good videos on the sea foam in the throttle body intake that do a fantastic job. My only thought with it being the cats is because it still doesn’t have real good acceleration. It’s fine when it gets up to speed by getting there is like watching a runner with a parachute on his back. It’s labored but it can do it

Yeah I just reread the column you posted in the other engine section. It was 9 gallons of fuel to one gallon of lacquer thinner. You might check to be sure your ebrakes not dragging. Real common when the cables haven't been lubed, or shoes adjusted too tight. I leave mine on the real loose side. You can actually pull the cables and see if it helps. It did with mine, if you do change one side cable, change both. Just another thing to check.

So I tried the sea foam and it really actually helped out a lot. It restored a lot of the take off power but it still feels a little sluggish so maybe one more can of that after the next oil change, also after I get my exhaust and intake put on it will probably be a beast

My last 182 tanks (58,666 miles), I've averaged 13.0 overall. I've had a high of 15.7. Not sure of my low- probably in the 10s.

Ford specs from Factory owners manual state 11 mpg city 15 highway, 13 avg for 1999 thru 2004 5.4 4x4 vehicles. Mileage for 2 wheel drive jumps by 2-3 city, and 3-4 highway. 4.6 models also got about 2-3 mpg better than 5.4. As they say your mileage may vary!

Mine is a 2001 EB 5.4 L. I love thing. Too bad its rusting from the bottom up. Just replaced all rear control arms. The mileage I'm getting seems to vary. In the city it is at times over 10.1 then can be 9.0. Anyway, I've noticed I get better millage with Shell Gasoline. I had been using BP. I wondered about that and BP gas is up to 10% ethanol. I don't think there is any in Shell's. If I'm wrong about that please let me know. I do know that ethanol has less combustive power than gasoline.

My 02 5.4 XLT gets a solid 12 mpg every time I check it.
My 97 5.4 XLT gets 13-14 MPG. I drive them the same so I don't understand why they are different.
