All my other Fords are on the bottom...never was an issue. If I had to guess it would be to keep the protruding plug from being exposed to potential bottoming out resulting in broke heads or hard to remove scuffed heads.

Hmmm. I’m trying to think if I have ever seen in directly on the bottom. Everyone I can think of has been on the side, some angled down but zero on the bottomAll my other Fords are on the bottom...never was an issue.
The 04 & 06 had them on the rear of the pan angled down. The 3 pickups have them on the bottom.Hmmm. I’m trying to think if I have ever seen in directly on the bottom. Everyone I can think of has been on the side, some angled down but zero on the bottom

The '16 is aluminum. Is the oil pan actually Aluminum? I'm 99% sure my oil pan is plastic POS.
I just read that the F150's got plastic oil pans and then in march of 2018 they went back to getting an aluminum oil pan because the plastic pans leaked non stop. GREAT!
I wonder if some of you have an Aluminum pan and some have the plastic?
